I STILL can't decide! Chally or Camaro?!?!

I'm going out of my mind! I just can't decide! Don't get me wrong, I DO want the Chally SRT8 but I can save allot of $$ by getting a Camaro RS/SS which knowing how much I saved, I would be just as in love with.

Total invoice including destination for the 2 cars optioned exactly how I would want them is as follows:

2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Black, stripe delete, SRT group 2, guzzler tax & discount, etc.
$41,491

2010 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS
Black w/orange stripes, orange/black 2 tone interior, RS package, ground effects, etc.

$36,021 (MSRP: $38,615)

I listed the Camaro's MSRP because to be fair, I doubt any dealers will be agreeing to invoice on a Camaro for 6 months but I know I can find Dodge dealers who will. However I can wait 6 months too.

Here are the campared specs that matter to me:

2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Curb Weight: 4140 lbs.
Horsepower: 425 hp
Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm
Torque: 420 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm
Power to Weight Ratio: 1HP per 9.74lbs

2010 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS
Curb Weight: 3860 lbs.
Horsepower: 426 hp
Max Horsepower: 5900 rpm
Torque: 420 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4600 rpm
Power to Weight Ratio: 1HP per 9.06lbs

A savings of $5,470 plus a faster car makes the Camaro a better value. Hell my down payment is only going to be $8K.

My main concern is the availability of aftermarket go fast goodies. I know there is a seemingly endless supply of LS3 aftermetket, but what about the 6.1 HEMI? I guess for me it breaks down to $ per HP it takes to make each car faster. Am I going to be spending allot more to make the SRT8 Chally have 600HP at the wheels than I am the Camaro SS? I know I am, but by percentage, how much? 30% more?

I was totally sold on the Chally for the last 3 years but now the Camaro has proven to be just as inticing for me now.

Here is where I cross-posted so I'm not getting all biased responses 1 way or the other:

People are going to burn you for this post. but i was thinking about buying a challenger also but i just decided to wait. there are way more features in the camaro. the cally is so basic. it looks like every other dodge car. you can’t say the camaro looks like another gm vehicle.

I know I might get flamed but I'm totally serious and I hope to get serious opinions.

I don't think the Chally looks like other Dodge vehicles at all aside from the interior and to be fair I'm not a huge fan of the Camaro's dash either.

Are you kidding me like it’s even a toss up the Challenger is not even in the same league as the New Camaro hell at this point nothing is  Hell I told my wife last night I am not going to be able to hold off for the convertible I have a feeling I will have one in my driveway before the years over or have one on order. She said what about the convertible I told her we will buy one of those too 

The challenger looks like an oversized AMC Gremlin.

Pick up the Camaro better performance, better looks, better price.

Support GM "GO CAMARO"

Plus in all the 3 way shoot outs the Chally came in last place, Rustang 2nd and Camaro 1st.

Your post even sounds like you want the camaro. Why don't you save some money and buy the better car?

I believe the Camaro is a better car all around. I like the look of the challenger but a faster, more advanced, more fuel efficient car for less money seems like a no brainer.

By the way it sounds like you have a nice GTA, I had a black 92 5.7 and loved that car.

More bang for your $$$ man. Camaro is the way to go and take that extra 5K and some change and put it towards some aftermarket on your Camaro and for roughly the same price you will be toasting the rustang and chally.

I went back and forth on this too, but for me it all came down to the look. And when it comes to exterior styling... Camaro wins, hands-down. Challenger is a very close 2nd, but my jaw is just floored every time I see the new Camaro.

So think of your #1 reason for wanting these cars, and pick the car that does it best for you. Don't second-guess yourself though... go with your first instinct and you won't regret it!

...I got $98 over invoice on my 2SS/RS.

But then I'm not in California, too.

If what you're looking for is performance and looks, then get the Camaro. I like the looks of the Challenger, and the straight line performance is good. From what I haave been reading, the car feels heavy, and the interior is more comfortable on long trips than the Camaro and has a full size back seat. If those things are important to you over a more sporty ride and handling vehicle then get the Challenger SRT8. It is a personal decision and the best thing you can do is drive them both which you will be able to do soon and make your decision then..
