2011 SS automatic - correct differential fluid?
I want to drain and replace the differential fluid (gear oil... or whatever is popular to call it) in my 2011 SS.
The Helm manual Volume 1, section 1-43 says to use two fluids:
These actual GM-labeled fluids appear to be scarce at most sources. Unless there is some hard-core reason to use the GM fluids, I'd just as soon use substitute products that do the same thing. Anyone care to comment on whether these products are suitable substitutes?:

I guess I should have posted this in the "fluids and servicing" sub-forum.

May have answered my own question with some googling.
Looks like the AC Delco fluids I suggested for my 2011 are correct if the owners manual for the 2015 is on point. |

Yeah I used Amsoil fluid and works like a charm. No modifier needed since it’s already in it

Holy crap the AC delco costs a lot.
Go down to Advance Auto or Auto Zone and get a bottle of Royal Purple 75w-90 and be done with it. It is made for limited slip diff's so you don't need the additive. |

. . . Anybody care to comment on the supposed need to change axle seals when switching to 88862624?: http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/...dPdf?id=180216 . . . |

For better or worse, the differential fluid is now replaced.
On recommendation of my friend, and master mechanic, and shop owner, he installed: Equa-Torque Differential Friction Modifier and 75W90 synthetic gear oil. He was adamant that it would be foolish to change to the specialty fluids suggested in the service bulletin. Why replace perfectly good axle seals just for the sake of keeping up with GM's latest complaint-mitigation strategy? Makes sense to me. Indeed, I really couldn't care less if my hot rod makes a few funny noises when making slow turns in the driveway, so long as the funny sounds are not indicative of something being damaged unnecessarily. The fluids were $80 and the labor was $55. I did want to do it myself. But since I picked his brain about the subject at some considerable length, I felt it only appropriate to send the work to him. Its been raining constantly since the swap was done. So, no significant road reports. I did do a few slow figure-8's in a parking lot on the way home. A wee bit of groaning sound still there, but seemed less than before. I will post back to this thread when I've had a chance to drive it more on dry roads. |

So they found the TSB and it was covered by warranty so I have new seals now and the "newer' fluid. Its been fine since then. Doing some Figure 8's after the change is a good idea to get the fluid out through the axles etc. They were pretty embarrassed when I pointed out their error but all was fine in the end...... |
