Rally Stripe Removal

Anyone remove the Rally Stripes on a Metallic based Camaro ?
If I were to get 2014 SS that was built in September and removed the rally stripes on the car do you guys think the paint will be brighter where the stripes used to be.

I am not concerned about the Vinyl coming off. What I am concerned of is discoloration and possible damage to the clear coat.

I was planning on ordering a 2SS but a dealer will go $ 900 lower if I take a car on their lot that has stripes.

I don't think you would have or see any issues removing the stripe, and would not expect to see any discoloration.

Now if it was 4 years old, kept outside..yes. But I think you are good to go.

on a new car, the paint should be fine.

I'd have the dealer remove the stripes as condition of purchase, and if its not to your satisfaction, make them make it right before you buy.

The dealer agreed to take them off and buff out the hood and trunk lid.
If the clear coat is damaged he would fix it.

I am more concerned with the paint being a little brighter where the rally stripes used to be. The Crystal Red Metallic is a delicate color.

I doubt on a 2014 it would be an issue, i've contemplated doing that on my 2010 but i'm fairly certain I would wind up with a ghost image of them in my paint. Luckily they're still in pretty decent shape so they should last if I take care of them.

I'd think twice about having the dealer buff the car dude. Really, they aren't going to remove the junk in the clear and make sure the car is really clean. They might not even wash it before running a buffer on it. If you're planning on naming your car "swirly" go ahead, otherwise you might not want to let them jack up your finish before you even drive it.

Maybe if it was darker than the surrounding paint.

I just hate the special attention they require during waxing and what not.

Luckily I park in a deck at work so my car doesn't have the sun on it during the day which i'm sure will help with the longevity. The previous owner must have taken decent care of the car as well. After 5 years they aren't peeling or anything, although it will come eventually.

You'll be fine on a new car...this past weekend I helped a friend take the stripes off his black '07 Gt500 w/ 50K on it. The car is mint and always garage kept but there weren't any issues w/ ghosting

I took the stripes on my 2010 rally yellow camaro after they had been on for two years and the car kept outside in the sun. There was a little shadow effect until I used a cleaner type wax on them and they could no longer be seen. I also removed the stripes on my red 2012 that has also been kept outside and had been on for 7 months you couldn't even tell they had been on there. I wouldn't worry too much about 6 months.

Thanks for the input guys.
I would think that since the car is brand new they will take the stripes off with a heat gun and then wipe the car down with a cleaner. Then polish it.
Keep in mind the car is in the northeast and the good was probably covered in snow for a little bit.

This is a tough decision.

I might get the balls to try it then. They'll have to either come off or be replace eventually since they won't last forever.
