Closing a ZL1 hood ?
Ok- i know this may sound like a stupid question but i have to ask . I went to close the hood on my new ZL1 - like i have closed the hoods on many other cars i have owned. I bring the hood a little over half way down and let it go with a little push and the hood latched but would not close so i gave it another try and the same thing happened. So i finally ( with the hood already lacked ) i gave it a firm push down and it closed . Is that how to close the hood on a ZL1 ?
I ask because i have never had to push down on a hood like that . Its only sheet metal and i don't want to dent it . |

You are right,be careful pushing it down because it will bend. I pull my hood down about halfway and let it drop.It latches everytime. You might try putting just a little grease in the latch and I mean just a little and you should be fine. If that does not work you will need to adjust it.

Agreed. With that said, I pull the hood down until it latches, then push it shut with a quick nudge using the bottom of my palm. I used to do this with my 98 TA with a lightweight composite hood and just kept doing it.
OP - You can adjust the two outermost posts located in the radiator cover area to change how the hood closes. They're really for aligning the height of the hood to the front bumper, but will aid in this as well. |

This is funny, I never drop my hood at all. I gently lay it down then lay my hand directly over the latch and gradually increase pressure unit I hear the latch snap. I may spring test it to be sure it is firmly latched but I don't do anything violent....lol. Works great for me.... and my hood has been opened a few times.....

That is just silly. I have literally pushed it hundreds of times with no adverse effect, do you really believe it suddenly is going to dent and crumple like an aluminum can? The aluminum on this car hood is thicker than what you find in a pop can. What do you think happens to the hood when you drive the car 200 mph? I'll bet it gets pushed on a lot harder than anything I'll ever do with my hand.
