Hi, You have to pay 10% import duty on the value of the car, plus 20% VAT on everything on top of that.
So say for example car is worth 10K, you pay duty on car making it 11k, plus $900 shipping, making $11,900, plus 20% vat $2380, total = $14280

Don't those figures alter, if you have owned the vehicle for 12 months or so before importing? I found this, it it helps : https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicle...outside-the-eu. Sounds like good news for you Scites.

Yeh, could be, I think if you have owned it & have the proof, for more than a year you may get around the duty.

I think i will be fine, iv owned the Beetle since 2007..

You don’t pay VAT or duty on vehicles imported from outside the EU if you qualify for transfer of residence relief. To qualify you must meet these conditions:
  • you’re moving your normal home to the UK
  • your normal home was outside the EU for a continuous period of at least 12 months
  • you’ve owned and used the vehicle for at least 6 months outside the EU
  • you didn’t get the vehicle under a duty or tax-free scheme
  • you’re going to keep the vehicle for your personal use for at least 12 months
To get the relief, fill out form form C104A and give it to Customs when you enter the country.
