2013 LFX V6 starting issue

To start with, my LFX V6 in in a 66 Chevelle, not the 2013 Camaro it was born in.

When I turn the key to start the engine, intermittently I get a single click. Like a dead battery but the battery is new and strong. After 5-50 trys, it starts.
I originally thought it had to do with the neutral safety switch at the shifter in the car but I’ve fixed that and to verify it, it is currently bypassed so the neutral safety switch is completely out of play.

I replaced the starter and the issue is still there.

Any guesses?
