That's exactly what I thought. I'm old school and I just like the way chrome wheels look. I can't get into the whole black wheel thing.

Thank you! I try to to keep all of my cars in great shape and looking good. I'm too much of a car guy to have a "not nice" car.

Yeah, I could never get into the black wheel craze either. They just don't show details well, and don't stand out like a nice chrome rim. I'm glad I was able to get these chrome zl1 reproductions before they stopped offering them.

That seems awfully high for the high pressure pump. Do you mind showing us what they charged you for? Alldata shows a 2.1 hr labor, so either they have a crazy high labor rate or the parts are a lot more expensive than I expect.

I never mind showing. I had the top half of the engine apart and realized it wasn't something I could change at home in my garage, so I put the car back together and brought it in. (Needed special cam alignment tools and what-not)

Yeah, they hosed you on labor for sure. The intake manifold needs to come off for plugs and the high pressure pump, so I would personally put them together about 3 hours call it 4 with diagnosis. What do they mean by "hose on clutch can"?

Typo. They put clamps on my hoses for my catch-can. They hosed me with a diagnostic fee because of my intake, and catch-can.

Blamed my catch-can for a vacuum leak that wasn't there. But my car was running so pig rich, I didn't feel like driving it back home to return it to stock just to bring it back. It was in rough shape and I was at their mercy.

I hope you lit a stogie and put your elbow out the window as you drove off the lot!

Congrats on the ride. You won't regret it, especially after tuning. It's all smiles every time I drive my car.

Mike, one of the first mods should be a set of 3.91:1’s. Completely changes the car.

I'm still trying to "relearn" driving an automatic. My right hand is still holding the shifter even though it's not needed. I still drop the parking brake and then reach for the clutch and hit the dead pedal. I have 5+ years inside my last Camaro, and now I have all of these habits I need to break haha.

One of these days I'll realize I can just sit with my arm out the window in traffic...

I know. I was stuck though. My usual independent shop couldn't take my car until the next week, and it was running really rough. This dealership was right down the road and they were able to take it same-day and fix it. Luckily I keep emergency funds for that reason, but it did teach me how I wanted to get back into a proper engine and not a DI DOHC.

What's your highway RPM after that gear change? I drive 70+ miles for work each day on the turnpike doing 80, I kind of like the RPMs being at 2000...

Yeah I'm going to do all of my basic tweaks that I know, and see if I like how it wakes the car up before I ask Dynosteve or someone to help out for cash. Even just using HPT and emailing tune files, they are a little pricey.

But sometimes it helps to pay the people that know this engine the best, and then learn from there.

Still seeing which route I want to go.

Now I’ll have to go drive at 80 and see what it is.

I do 90+ on I-78 and it’s not loud or obnoxious at all unless you step on it. As for MPG, that’s why I bought a 2018 CR-V. I think I’m getting 15-ish in mixed driving.
