I had forgotten about the Trail Boss. Isn't it pretty much just a lift kit on a Z71?

Yes, you can buy the "kit" from GM and put it on some of the other trim levels as well.

Yeah, if I remember right it’s a 2” lift on the Z71 and some unique stickers. The lift is nice but a full ZR2 treatment would be cool.

Well, the stickers make it all worth it then. Reminds me of some recent discussions around whether or not the RS package (on other Chevy's besides the Camaro) counts as a 'performance model' or not. I still maintain that a minor suspension upgrade does not count as a performance model.

Nothing yet. I look at the recently announced CT4 and 5 Vs. I believe the 2.0 currently in the Camaro is going away and is certainly leaving LGR. So I could see those in the mix. Has to be a hybrid if not even an EV. But as there are no prototypes on the road we are at least 18 months away from anything new.

An interesting engine failure in Mrs. Number 3’s XT4.

The new family of turbo 4 cylinder turbos includes a technological marvel 3 stage cam. I have a video way too big to post but basically the cam has 3 lobes per valve. Max lift for power, low lift for FE and no lift for cylinder deactivation.

Well 5,000 miles in the engine developed a grinding noise. After a visit from a GM engineer and 4 weeks the verdict is a new engine. At first it seemed the verdict was a failure of the complicated cam. But now a new engine.

Glad its a lease.

Is a cam lobe with 0 lift still a cam lobe? Feels like it shouldn't be, since its just a circle at point, and non-circularity is kinda what makes a cam a cam. But it is still 'instructing' the valves on what to do, its just telling them to do nothing.

Yet another philosophical question raised on a car forum.

Well this question assumes that the circle is small enough it doesn't actually lift the valves. What if the circle was large enough to actually keep the valves in an open positon? Technically it's still "lifting" the valves, just they are always lifted at the same opening all the time..........

Well that's not good... wonder what the actual cause was.

Hopefully you can get that out of them after the fact.

Hoping to find out. I have a close friend that worked on this engine.

As it is a raised machined surface on the cam and "technically" could be interpreted as one lobe with 3 lifts...…………….

Video is 33 MB so tough to load it. Here is a snap.

That's pretty crazy... slides back and forth on the splines.
