1st start hi-idle, no power brakes.

2010, V6, Auto.

When I first start the car, and you get that 10-13 second or so hi-idle, the
power brakes do not work. I started it up, and while it was hi-idling, came
down off ramps (or rack), I have no power brakes. I can step into the
pedal and it stops. It only happens during the initial cold hi-idle. As soon
as the hi-idle drops, the brakes work. Once once it's warmed up when
restarting, brakes are fine. Does not happen when driving at higher RPMs.
It only happens when starting cold. The car does have a vacuum boost
pump.

Pump to brake booster line was replaced, and it didn't do this till that was
done. It was broken before, and the brakes were fine all the time.

To make sure there's an adequate supply of vacuum the vacuum pump is used during cold start-up, heavy throttle, and high altitude conditions. I'd suspect the pump is no good

Definitely a vacuum issue.

The odd thing is, when the vacuum pump hard line was broken, this didn't
happen. I slid a section of hose over the broken section of the hose, and
this didn't happen. When the line was replaced, then it started, and only
at the initial high idle.

I know it's a vacuum issue, but seems coincidental that the pump just happened
to fail right after that line repair.

I got a P0023 code to chase down, with new VVTs, while an old one doesn't
set the code. So, I have that to worry about, unless I want to put one of the
old VVTs back in. This car is a nightmare... I should have cut my losses and
let them buy it back...
