Exclamation Car won't start

So, I shut my car off to get gas. Fill the car with gas, then get back in and..... click...... try again.... click...... nothing.

I have power to all the lights. I did notice my dash flickered once really quick prior to this, but just thought it was a stabilitrac message.

So tomster gives me a little push down a hill, I get it bump started. Thank goodness it is a manual. I park the car and then try and restart. same problem.

I get another bump start and run the car pretty good for the next 20 minutes....

I park the car and shut it off for about 35 minutes.... just clicks... get another bump start and run it for another 40 minutes then drive home 1.5hrs..... get almost home and the dash flickered again. This time I saw it go off and then back on. I was less than 1000 feet from home. the road is very bumpy.

Car is in the garage and just clicks.

any clue where to start to look for this short?

Check ground connection to the battery. That will affect the electical. Or maybe it is a weak battery.

Checked the battery, cables and ground are good. Forgot to mention I checked that, sorry. My battery is obviously in the trunk. I thought about the battery being weak also, but all the headlights and such are bright, it is 4.5 yrs old though.

Had something similar happen with Pontiac Transport 10 years ago; vehicle was less than a month old. Turned out the battery post was broken internal to the battery and lost connection. Check all battery connections--physically and then electrically.

This exact thing happened to me on my last car. They ended up having to put in a whole new ignition system

I've never had a battery go more than about 5 years. I'd put that at the head of your list.

What is the battery voltage? Did you add any aftermarket lights draining the battery? Sounds like dead cells battery not storing voltage. Or, and lets hope not it sounds like the starter.

Try jump starting with a good set of cables and hot battery...is she fires right up..it's time for a new battery....if its a bad connection you should see it arc at one of the connections on or from the battery if you let someone turn the key while you watch....my monies on the battery being shot

Didn't check, out of town right now. just LEDs for the markers and fogs, so actually less drain.... Tomster & I thought the starter too, it was getting pretty hot out there....

Definitely sounds like a bad cell in the battery

ok, so somewhat of an update.

I got home after watching my daughters tennis tournament and checked the voltage on the battery (12.44)

I put the cables on the car and it started. took them off and shut it off, tried starting it no cables, won't start.

Hooked the cables up and it started.

So I am now charging it with a battery tender.

When I initially get in, it shows zero miles and it is telling me to index the windows.
