1st Oil Change and 15mm!

So I did my first oil change at 955 miles...

I'd say I did not drive the car hard, but an occasional spirited acceleration, but always already moving at a clip.

So I get the car on jacks in the front and I see the oil pans lowest point is probably a bit behind the drain plug.. so you know there is a bit still in there... I proceed.

15mm! The damn drain pug on my 'American' muscle is metric.. ugh... I proceed. Below is the green drain pan... 955 miles, looks like I drove 5000... and there were metal shavings in there. Can't really see in my crappy pics, but the glint was unmistakable. Needless to say, don't go the full 5000 miles before your first oil change.. Mine is getting another one at 3000....

I continue to tell people that is a good idea to change it before 1k. Some people say that is what the filter is for...

I did my $42 Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil1 filter change at 890 miles, then again at 2900..then when the DIC tells me I have 15% left.

My plan is to change the oil the first time at 500 miles, then again at 1500, 3000, and every 3000 thereafter.

May be a bit overkill, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Same thing we are doing. We just changed ours at the 500 hundred mark and there were shavings in the drain bucket even though the oil still looked yellowish new. With filter cut open there were shavings as well. So next stop is 1000, 1500 and then every 3000 no matter what the oil life indicator says.
