The zl1 is going to stay top dawg
if z28 was to be built i would hope it was a ss drivetrain with special interior trim and "road coarse handling) different wheels ect. GM is NOT going to make the z28 come close to the zl1 so forget about the s/c |

The Z28 should be nothing more then a modified/beefed up SS Camaro, not a stripped down version of a ZL1. Ford's Boss 302 is just that, a beefed up version of 5.0 Stang GT. GT500 was not touched, so Chevy do the same. Leave your high powered Camaro alone for this creation, take a page out of Fords book on this one and start with what you already have as your base v8 model.
Of course, you can throw some features that the ZL1 has but dont get to crazy on it. You'll probably piss off the ZL1 owners lol I agree with most of you on the performance of the Z28 but idk about an Ls7 in it. That alone drives up the price, just beef up the Ls3. Its a great engine, the weight of the car is what really holds it back. Lighter the car, the better it will respond with that ls3. I mean, have you seen stock ls3 vette's run? Things are fast as hell with an Ls3, cant even imagine the z06's and there ls7's......yet to see a z06 run lol

My Z28 recipe:
All the ZL1 content except: Slightly modded LS3 instead of LSA. New cam and valvetrain parts to get a couple hundred more RPM and 450ish hp. Better exhaust manifolds. No MR suspension. Lowered slightly from the SS, but with manually adjustable clicker shocks. Slighter firmer - bushings, springs, sways from the SS. Use the ZL1 front fascia but tweeked to be Z28 specific. Maybe all body color, heritage grille, different color mohawk hood insert. Then you would have quite the track capable performance car without the LSA cost and weight, without the MR cost... and get the good drivetrain stuff, 3.73s, better clutch, cooling, forged wheels, brakes... If you push the SS today, the drivetrain is full of weak links, handling is pushy, gearing is too tall for 20's..... this would take care of all that, and be relatively blue collar affordable. |

There are already other threads on this, but what the heck, This is the Camaro I am looking forward to.
##### The Z28 does not need a ton more HP. Chevy should do this:
We can all have fun! I am going to use my GM card exclusively so I am ready when the time comes. At the same time I am going to mod and enjoy my SS now and not worry about the future.

The 1st gen Z28 were not cheap, infact a 69 Z/28 was the most expensive version of the camaro so IMO A C5 Z/28 would be:
A N.A. track monster. 1.Start with the ZL1 but Use the LS7 not the LSA that would save about 100lbs. 2.Keep the Magnetic Shocks 3.Carbon Ceramic disc brakes from the Zr1 (The 69 Z/28 used the vette brakes) 4.No darn heated power seats!!! Use light wieght Sparco Racing seats (Cuts about 90+ lbs) 5. Carbon Fiber Roof / Hood (lower center of gravity and less weight) 6. Smooth Underbody for less drag 7. 3.92 gears That would probaly Cost $60k though, But it would be worth it. |
