I've been thinking about the same thing. To me, the things that remain, that are the most important, are the power, weight, and what the rest of the drivetrain looks like. For example: are we really getting a 14-bolt, and if so, what's the ring gear diameter? Are we getting fortified suspension components, like control arms, trailing arms, etc.? How much weight has all this technology and go-fast-goodness added to the car and has GM implemented enough lightweight materials to offset that mass? How much power are we getting? 570, 580, 590 horsepower? Will that be enough to keep the Philly from Dearborn at bay until the next generations come in a few years?

The more and more i think about it the more and more i'm thinking that it is going to be very very difficult for GM to keep this car in a competive price range. I know i know. They have said it will be competive price wise but im really starting to think upper 50's at this point. Especally if they manage to keep the weight down. That stuff doesnt come cheap. JMO but i think they may be over the price that they initally wanted to offer this car at and that is another reason that they decided to go with the SSX wheels as the standard and the silver/machined wheels as the option. JMVHO

I sure hope im wrong though!!!!

Just dreaming here...

575 would be enough to cause permagrin

585 would make me gasp and cause permanent UltraGrin

600+ would cause loss of bodily fluids.

At a 14% loss for manual, 582 HP at the crank would be >500 to the wheels, and that for me is a LONG sought after goal.

With those numbers, wide rubber, and launch control I'm predicting orgasmic acceleration.

Well stated in regards to SS vs. ZL1...I would like to chime into the fact that most of us were of the modding type in our high school and college days that now have real jobs and can afford to by a factory new high performance vehicle with a WARRANTY that we can flog daily and take back to the dealer for any little 'tick' we don't like under the warranty policy and still have the option of eventually modding it out as well which would put it up and above the stock figures. The ZL1 appears to be a well rounded competitor in the appearance, performance (autocross/drag), as well as, features even more so than a stock SS. So I for one the first time in my career am ready to have that NEW CAR SMELL and be the first to use and abuse a vehicle instead of a hand me down or second owner.

Every married man needs to know this -- It is far easier to beg forgiveness than gain permission.
