Convertible front molding

Gang,

I need to replace the interior front molding on my 2014 ZL1 convertible. I've found the part on GM Parts direct 22766899 - but I can't tell how to remove the old one.

See item #2 in the attached image.

Does anyone have any experience with removal/replacement of this part?

I don't know if I would recommend doing that yourself - you have to peel back the convertible top fabric. The screws that hold the trim part on shoot straight down.

That's the entire issue. Two of the tabs that the screws go into over the driver side are broken. It rattles like a mofo.

Cool Repair convertible front plastic trim

Like many things I've suffered with in my Corvettes and Camaros over the years, the design of the trim piece is obviously flimsy and flawed, and replacement only sets you up for a frustrating identical repeat problem in the future.

Has anyone attempted to re-attach the plastic bosses with crazy glue and baking soda combination? It supposedly forms a rock solid bond to plastic

I will be trying it on my 2014 2SS convertible soon and will post the results.

So far no problems with the 22 ZL1, but time will tell.

I'm not sure if this is in other areas of the forums because the search feature sucks donkey ballz. But here's a video of what it takes to take apart the top to get the trim piece off. Repair or replace, that's an option left to you. But it doesn't look too difficult.

I purchased the part , but haven't installed it yet. I ihave a 2011 soft top. this u tube is for a 2012 soft top. don't know how much different it would be for a 2020.
The only reason i can see it breaking is driving without the cover on and the top flaps in the hole

good luck

My presumption has been that they break when closing the top and allowing it to drop onto the top of the windshield. It hits sorta hard.
I let it drop onto my hand and then ease it down.

I just checked the mileage on the ZL1 and it's 2,887. I thought I'd already gone over 3K by now. Hmmm. Nothing is broken...yet.

And yes, I too, do not let the top slam down on the windshield. I bring it in close, grab the handle, then guide it down the rest of the way very slowly.

But I did purchase a new piece of front trim anyway to stash in the corner because if/when it ever happens, I won't be wishing I'd have bought one when they were still cheap and available. And the bonus is, if I end up getting rid of the car without using it, I can just sell it later. I know people will buy it. Because those interested in it actually would be needing it.

I don't wear driving gloves when I drive it, so I've already purchased new alcantarra shifter knob, boot, and steering wheel almost 10 years ago. I see those as high-wear parts. I keep them clean, but eventually that stuff's going to wear off. Again, they'll be highly desireable parts for those that need them one day, even if I don't.

This is for the 2011-2015 5th gens. I don't know if it would fit the 6th gens, but I doubt it.

Additionally, the price has about doubled or more in the last few years, so might want to get them while you can.
