I have some Kooks 1 7/8 long tubes with high flow cats that will be going on soon. I plan to install them along with Pray's head / stg 1 cam package as soon as I get the time to pull & ship Pray my heads. I am fortunate to live in a county that does not require emissions inspections. Would the off road pipes be worth much over the high flow cats? I got a great deal on the headers/cats from another member, otherwise I would have gone with the off road pipes. Any insight on the differences sound and power wise for pipes vs cats?

I’m in NY and I’m fully catless. Just get the tuner or speedshop to help you get your car passed. Most speedshops use the same guy that hooks it up.

I always run cats. I will take the hit on power if there really is one.

If I were naturally aspirated I probably would have purchased high flow cats instead but in this case I bought the off-road connection pipes only. If you purchased the headers and asked them to sell you both the catted and off road connection pipes you can swap between the 2 fairly easily as both the catted and off road pipes just slip on to the factory exhaust. In total to swap from catless to catted you would need to jack the car up and remove 4 bolts total. Very easy to swap back and forth between both setups. The primary cats for long tube headers sit where your factory secondary cats used to sit

Im on long island as well have you had the car OBD inspected yet? I believe its the 1st 2 model years so as of Jan 1st a 2016 needs to pass OBD here in NY . 2017+ are saftey only on a new vehicle (and its only 10 bucks) Your tuner needs to have the diagnostic tables set correctly. The readiness monitors need to be online and ready with no current codes set, the Check Engine must illuminate on startup (that part is visual by the inspector) and theres no way around that. Im pretty sure we are allowed 1 monitor to have a not ready status but on not 100% on that.

Here in good ole Texas, performance shops look out for each other’s. Catch my drift lol

Do they put a sniffer in your tailpipe when emissions testing? If not, and you are not throwing codes, I would think you would pass. I have never heard of any emission tests where they inspect the underside of your car, atleast I do not recall anything like that when I lived in CT, albeit many years ago.

Yea to my understanding they just plug it in to their scanner and check to see if the systems are ready so i should be all set once its retuned for the headers
