Unhappy My Mis-Install

Ok, here are some shots.

The brace, laid in place:

The 1st (and only) hole drilled. Now, drilling was very tough as the 1/2" bit was long and the drill kept hitting, and scraping, the fiberglass hood. I could NOT get a clean hole directly over the rivet of the hood brace and it slipped over to the side - closest to the fender.

You can then see how that much off causes the brace not to line up - and therefore, it sits at an angle and cannot be bolted in. I have tried, and it just won't connect...

If you guys can tell me where I can get another RivNut insert, maybe I can sell the kit to someone else since it hasn't been used.

Thanks,
Michael J.

You can try McMaster-Carr to see if you can find another rivnut but it wouldn't hurt to ask Pfadt.

Out of curiosity, it looks like your PFADT camber plates are positioned for caster adjustment.

Michael J,

Can you remove the sealing pad and take those pics again? It is supposed to go on the inside of wheel well anyway. Its hard to tell exactly what happened with that sealing pad blocking what is underneath. Lets take a look at that area and see if we salvage the install. Thanks!

Ok, hopefully you can tell better with these pictures. Basically, no matter what I used, I could not get the hoel to start on TOP of the bracket rivet. I broke several small drill bits and used a brand new 1/2" drill bit to make the hole. You can see that the hole is off to the side, which is why it's angled.

The 1 shot from the "other" side is blurry as my camera wouldn't focus that close - sorry.

Thanks,
Michael J.

while a I understand the strut tower need, that is an ugly strut bar. How do you get the engine cover off?

Where would I be able to get Pfadt suspension components installed in PHX? If I have to, I could do the 12 hr drive to SLC.

Boy you have some paint repair to do under the hood.
I would say get a new insert from Pfadt. I'm sure they will give you one and walk you through a fix.

I would do what I could to salvage the install, because I wouldn't want just a hole there staring at me every time I opened the hood.

I just got my strut tower brace today. I'm going to follow this and see how it turns out before I install mine.
