Performance Chips

Relatively new owner and don't have anywhere near the car smarts that I see on the forums here. I have a '13 6cyl. and have made a few mods - performance exhaust sys. & CAI. My question for you guys is this: anyone have any advice on a performance chip (the next mod I'm seriously considering)?

Thanks

Search the forums for tuning information. Your 2013 1LT has the LFX V6 so you can search that sub-forum for information specific to your engine. There are a number of forum sponsors that sell tunes for the V6.

This. "Chips" are dead and if you see them advertised just know that it is a scam. These days cars are tuned. For the V6 you will want to look into Trifecta or IPF tuning.

Your car has a computer built in that only requires tuning from a hand held tuner that can adjust many performance point in the car such as shift points on the automatic transmission, and things that in the past someone would have to buy a "chip" to plug into their computer to get rid of the stock one for more performance. Actually there are more than one computer on todays Camaro one is called the BCM body control module and the other ECM engine control module...

Tuning would not be high on my list of mods at this point. Look at improving the suspension/handling of the car. It will make the ride so much better than it is now.

Cars are heavily computerized now, so the computers have to be reprogrammed. Chips are insufficient. You should find a trustworthy performance shop with a dyno and talk to them about tuning your Camaro. Keep in mind that a tune is necessary for some mods, like headers or a cam. As a result, you should plan out your goals with the car before tuning so as not to waste any unnecessary money on a tune you'll be changing soon.

You are in luck having an LFX you can get a custom tune any performance shop that handles HPTuners. Get an on dyno tune it's the best you can do.
