Measuring cam lift without removing cam
I want to double check the lift of my cam but don't want to take it out. I figured if I remove a valve cover and measure the height of the spring when the valve is closed and subtract the height when it's fully open, I should get the overall lift but the numbers just aren't even close.
Am I missing something here? |

I did the same thing. When engine is off the lifter isn't pumping up and bottoms out. So you have to add in the lifter travel x the rocker ratio and add that to your valve lift. If I understood correctly.

I wanna say total lifter plunger travel to bottom is .200 for a stock ls3 lifter
I could sure be wrong so do some looking. Its more than .050 for sure. I have more preload than that so I'd be bottomed out lol.
