So, I have seen many guys on here and at the track that use painters "blue" tape to protect body panels on their cars.
Would it be safe for the paint or crazy for me to put blue tape on the front end of my car in order to do a long (unwanted) road trip with my ZL1 to protect at least some against the bugs and rock chips????

I know of other protective films from 3M and such, but I don't have time to order on such short notice and I have tons of the blue tape from jobs I have done.

Please help!!!

Sure do it. protective tape is quite permanent though.

I know a lot of people who have used the blue tape during long road trips and it works well to protect the front end.

The 3M temp product is available at AutoZone. You don't have one close to you ? Blue tape will work but it is a pain to clean up after removal IMO.

Excellent input! Thanks. I will check out Autozone for the temporary 3M stuff, but if I can't find it, I will go with the blue tape.

I would only use the "Blue" tape for short road trips, less than 4 hours. If I was going to be on the road for an extended period of time, I would use the 3M product. I agree with Good_Times, once the tape is allowed to get hot, the adhesive can be a pain to remove from bumpers.

Another option is plastidip.

I'd probably just go with the tape though.

I use Ohio Speed's stretch bra for road trips. It's really not that bad and it comes off in around 25 seconds and on in around 2 minutes once you get used to it.

I'd use blue tape for the rear bumper at the drag strip, but other than that, it would be too much of a hassle to take on and off.

The blue tapes comes right off without any mess.

Frog tape ' green in color is just as good and it's very easy to remove

Leaving tape on for a few hours is easy to remove. It's another story to leave it on for a cross country trip and return in various weather conditions. Been using blue tape for many years and after having to shove a project out of the shop for a extended period of time I will pull the tape and re-tape later as opposed to leaving it on.

plastidip will make a mess, don't do it. It also costs more money and is much harder application than tape.
