If only. Did you see the wet boots in the above pictures? Do you think I need a new rack? Low on fluid. Looseness over bumps. Random wandering under acceleration, at times. The occasional vibration from toe changing possibly.

Good possibility. Some weeping is normal in higher mileage cars. How many miles?

88,000. But, I do push the car on corners, etc.

New rack comes with new bushings and tie rods so it'll be nice to everything fresh in the steering department.

Weeping may be, but the reservoir being dry can't be normal.

If the rack has play, its bad. You can try and adjust it, but if it were me I wouldnt bother. It sounds like you've answered your question. Everything I solid except one side where the tie rod mounts to the steering rack, which has play.

Thank you for the reinforcement. Haha. I wonder why mine gave out at 88,000. Firm suspension and aggressive cornering/driving probably (plus that one incident).

I bet it was the accident that doomed it.

No puddles. I just recently noticed my tie rod boots with wet spots on them.

Most likely. Then the constant vibration from the loose shaft that connects to the tie rod must have made it even worse.

Put the Camaro on jack stands.
Start it.
Turn the wheels slowly to the left and then the right.
Hold the wheels against the stop.

What do you feel?

What do you feel?

So turn it to the left and then to the right, and hold it against the right stop?

Yesterday, while doing this test on the ground, there was a hissing/air noise while turning. It reminds me of a handheld air pump and needle.

Hissing is normal. Use GM Dexos Full synthetic trans fluid for your PS pump.
