Cross member

Putting a carburetor and 5.3L in 2011 for drag strip only. Oil pan is hitting cross member before engine mounts touch frame. Guessing 1 1/2 - 2" off. Stock aluminum mounts with BMR solid mounts. Can I cut out the cross member all together and forget it?

Not sure I would cut it out all the way. You could make some mounts to drop it down or cut it and have a drop welded to each side. There is a thread floating around here somewhere where someone has done this.

Is that a custom pan for the strip or is it the stock 5.3 truck pan?

If the truck pan, why not swap it for the LS3/L99 style pan?

I did stumble upon the thread where guy made a custom bolt in piece. That may be option as well.
And yes assuming engine builder put a truck pan on instead of stock pan. Just wanted to get opinions to easiest solution at this point.

What was your reasoning to cut out?

Cut your cross member and add brackets to make it a bolt In.

Wasn't someone here making a kit for that exact setup?
I would buy it in a heart beat.

CFD made them. He doesn't post a lot on here anymore so you might want to try a PM.

The OP isn't needing to cut the cross member because he wants to drop the pan, he wants to remove it because the oil pan he has needs another 1 1/2 clearance to clear the deeper oil pan.
Thus, he would need to replace (or eliminate) the current crossmember with one that drops down to clear his pan.

I would get an LS3 pan and pickup. I got a take out off eBay from one of the vendors for about $100. Of course they are double that now.

Or save a couple hundred bucks and break out the sawzall, but you can bet GM did not put that crossmember in just for shits and giggles.
