Curious---What is adequate Daily Driver RWHP
I know will get many different answers, but looking for those guys 550+ to chime in....In all honesty as a daily driver where does the 550+ really come into play?
Currently looking hard at doing a Supercharger along with LS3 conversion. This will be my first 600+ car which never plan on tracking. Its not a Daily Driver, but mainly driven on weekends and attend shows. In reality is 600+ just not necessary if never tracking?? Is having 600+ with above usage just for bragging rights?? My wife continues to ask, "do you really need 600+" My answer is always YES, but when thinking continue to wonder if doing just for bragging rights and showing off SC under the hood? Lots of dough to shell out. So curious why do many of you have 600+ cars if you never plan to track. Do you find 600+ in reality is too much on streets and hard on the engine?? |

mine just made 555 rwhp last week. its a daily driver, and its a much more fun daily driver. oddly enough I am not into the throttle quite as much as I was stock either. but when I want to smile I just hit it...and then I . it doesn't get old.

If I didnt plan on using the HP I probably wouldn't add the HP .. my opinion. I plan to make close to 700whp and drive it occasionally. But that occasionally will be putting the HP to use lol.

I had the magic number of 600 rwhp stuck in my head also. After my dyno tunes and only 8lbs of boost I hit 603/588 with a very conservative tune.. I was happy, I even had extra pulleys to get me to 10lbs of boost if needed. After the dyno, I did a street tune and the car runs as smooth as stock, minus traction of course. I could drive it dailey if I wanted, even the wife can jump in and drive it anytime, but that happens once every leap year..
If I ever get bored, I have more pulleys for up to 650 rwhp... But anything higher than that I will forge the motor first.

My car is a joy to drive around town and on country roads at 640. My goal was SC, cam, and 8lbs or less boost and hp was secondary since I don't go to the track. Of course it is not necessary but you gotta enjoy life.

Totally agree with posts above just finding it so hard letting go of the 12,000 saved. I right there just need to make the first jump. As stated the wife giving a guilt trip. :-)

My wife practicaly cried once she saw the first 10k paypal exchange. Then two cam swaps, 3 sets of wheels, and a crap load of other wasted funds she got over it. The guilt trips come and go, she still reminds me all the time how much money I put into a car that sits for almost 5 months out the year in up state NY. Just a FYI, I love everything about it. Shitty day at work and the ride in the car just relaxes me. I loved the car when it was stock but once over 600 it was just a beast and relieves stress like no other. Honestly it keeps me sane, and when it's fish tailing at 70-80 mph instant perma grin. Just like jumping out planes when I was a young paratrooper.

As a daily driver with 500+rwhp, the ability to quickly merge into 45-60mph traffic from a full stop when cars are no more than 3 or 4 seconds apart is something I take advantage of every day.

I'm around 600 in my 1LE and in my opinion it's where the car should be power wise. Being nearly 3900 lbs, it needs all the help it can get. And with the 1LE fitted with F1 Supercar tires, it doesn't spin nearly as easy as the stock tires on the SS, which is slightly disappointing because I love 60-70 mph burnouts as mentioned above. Do it!!! You won't be disappointed.

700rwhp is a good number. Boost by gear is great, or the ability to turn it down when you want less for road course/autox/etc.
When do you need 700? When racing a 600hp car. When you put 4-5 cars on them on a highway pull you will be happy you had 700.

My Vette made 700 (15k miles boosted) and I felt it was perfect for a street car! Drove mostly like stock or I could roast the tires at 70 in 3rd! But even at 600 it was faster than almost everything in the street! That being said I think anything over 800 is out of dd range and more parts break! That and at that level you better do the internals too!
500=fun car 700=fast car 800+= both and more money and down time but INSANELY fast car!! |
