NT05r or NT555r?

I am about to get some new wheels and it'll be a 20x11 rear wheel. What I am trying to figure out is what's the best tire to run for it. I would like to try out a drag radial since most street tires dont stand a chance hooking with my car's power/gear. Im leaning towards the nt555r at the moment as the car is daily driven and not really wanting to replace tires every 3 months. What kind of mileage is everyone getting out of their nittos, whether it be the nt05r or nt555r? How well do the 555r's hook in comparison to the nt05r? Thanks for the input!

My cam makes pretty good low end power plus the 3.91 gear... the mt street comps on there now spin in 2nd.

Definitely not the 05R's if this is driven on a regular basis. A couple reasons:

First, they are a slick down the center with a small amount of tread on the outside should of the tire. This thing would be all over the road in even the slightest rain.

Second, they wear fast. I only put mine on for the 20 mile drive to the track and they are wearing pretty quick.

As for the stick, they do pretty well but launching the LS3 is a science and even more so when you factor your mods. You're making about the same power as me.

Bottom line, for a daily driver I would do no more than the 555's but you might consider saving yourself the headache and running a street tire for the daily driver bit and have a spare set with NT05r's for strip duty. Good luck.

I may try the 555r one go around. As for the launching, i think some stick of the tire is all im missing with my clutch slip

NT555Rs if its daily driven and will see some rain. NT555Rs actually have decent tread life (much better than the NT05R). Some guys get 8k miles out of them. It all depends on how often you go to the track.

For daily driving, the Invos would be okay. But if you're into drag racing or looking to hook up well on the street, the Invos won't come close to getting the job done.

My car is only making 360 rwhp and the Invos wouldn't hook up at all on the street (from a dig).

I run 36 PSI to get to/from the track and air down to 18 for racing. Also keep in mind DR's are going to effect handling. Your car is not going to be a canyon carver with DR's on so expect some decreased cornering performance when on the street.

I was debating between NTO5, 555s and Invos myself, [not the Rs] as a daily driver tire for this summer coming up, Rain can be heavy but its so hilly that water never settles on the roads here. Also my car that is a DD isn't track raced at all. And I have seperate wheels/tires for winter.

I also debated going with a regular nt05 but i think theyll do just as good as my mt street comps...so ill give the 555r a shot. I drive pretty conservativly 95% of the time

I have tried both of them and I prefer the NT05r's. They are a softer compound and have more of a contact patch.

Now, with that being said............... I now have some M/T ET street radials, and these things are awesome!! I hook every time.

i use nt555R's on my hhr when i go to the track, i know its a little different but i would not want to drive around on those 555r's very sticky and for my car being front wheel drive, i was having a lot of trouble turning the wheel at low speeds. i agree with these guys, get some invos for the day and buy some 18" wheels and mount nt05R's on them for the track.

I've been daily driving on the 555R's on 20x9 rims, and they've seen heavy rain and temps down to 33F here. They drive great on the street. What are the treadwear ratings of both tires? Usually the higher the treadwear, the longer they last. Mine don't look worn at all. But they might not work out for me long time. I won't DD on low treadwear tires because I'd hate to go thru two sets a year.
