Can someone recommend a good polisher? I used to detail cars many years ago and the buffer I have is a Black & Decker that is at least 20 years old. It still works but doesn't sound all that good anymore. I'm sure any bearings in it are toast. I would primarily be using it for machine polishing a couple times of year for the family vehicles and occasionally a friends car or whatever. I don't need anything "top of the line" or for commercial use, just something decent. I've never used anything orbital. What's the recommendation? What do I use for pads? I used to always use wool pads. Are these still popular or has foam taken over?

Thanks

Polisher : http://www.autopia-carcare.com/griot...l#.VyHaNDArKM8
Or if you want spend more this is a borderline pro machine high end hobby machine that will work 30-50 percent faster :http://www.autopia-carcare.com/griot...l#.VyHchjArKM8

Change the backing plate down to 5" : http://www.autopia-carcare.com/buff-...l#.VyHacjArKM8

5.5" thin pads, (2-4) White polishing pads (4-6) orange cutting pads (1) black or red pad if you want to machine wax (1) not a need but a nice plus grey pad for spot fixing bad scratches (also could use wool for spot fixing they cut great) : http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lake-...ds-5-inch.html

Also 2 forums to check out with a lot info, second one has a guy Mike Phillips that post a lot of how to right ups and videos. he is one the best in the country and now has a show on velocity about detailing.

Thanks Trashman.....if I'm ever out in Plymouth, I'm guessing there aren't many 1LE's in town so it's probably you.

What's your take on poor boys paste wax or chemical guys xxx wax ? I have a friend that's interested in those and having tried over 30 waxes those are two that I never touched. Are they any good ?

Just updating the ultima trim guard recommendation. The new formula is water based and it noticeably different. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL.

I read the sticky and...

I was looking for something for underhood... like engine cover and strut towers... I know strut towers can be cleaned with whatever is used on the outside, but the plastic engine cover seems to stay dusty. Ideas?
