CAIs in general

Ok, the consensus I'm getting here is they're all really the same. While they do provide a light increase in performance, none of them truly deliver on the HP they promise. Is it really true? Am I better off getting a relatively cheap CAI (such as a K&N 63-3105) vs. an Injen 7300?

They offer varying degrees of improvement you need to decide personal preference. When doing so there's a few simple things. Open Box or Closed Box.

Open Pro's:

Blow off noise
Better airflow then stock by far.

Open Con's:

It's open to the engine bay so unless sealed with other options it will take in some warmer engine compartment air.

Closed Pros:

Sealed structure little to no warm engine bay air.
Better airflow then stock by far.

Closed Con's:

Closed you won't be able to hear turbo blow off if that's your thing.

There's probably more but remember the age old adage more airflow to the turbski the better for the turbski.

I hear the bypass valve with my EVO7300.

Well, made my decision (for the time being): since none of the CAIs on the market have 100% been able to convince me that they're worth it for the gain that they promise vs the gain they actually get (without a tune), I think for now I'm just going to go with a ZZP Performance silicone intake tube paired with my K&N drop-in (I've heard good things about the combo). Perhaps down the road I may reconsider and upgrade from there...

Exactly what I did minus the drop-in. Tube looks fantastic and got rid if that stock bottleneck and eyesore.

Do they really increase any Horsepower or Torque like some intakes advertise. It seems it can be a little false leading. I liked to do this to my camaro but will it just gain in sound and not performance?

You are not going to be able to tell you did anything. Combined with a tune and downpipe you will for sure notice.

I've got a slightly used ZZP silicone tube. I bought it slightly used and never installed it. I'm going up to the Injen 7300.
