4th Gen's now in the 9's, cam only
This isn't really any legit class, just something in the LS1 community mostly Fbodys, vetts have a LS1 list too. LS2,LS3s GTO, and LS swap cars have gone fast in this setuo too. There no weight limit, or anything so the cars are light. It's basically a stock LS1 longblock (you can put arp rod bolts in, the earlier years had weaker bolts) Bolt ons and a cam, no power adder. No head work or valvejob. A few years ago there was some fast car, a few of them were friends that were doing this at the same track. Got down to mid 10's and ended up going 10.2 in crazy DA. It sat like that for since 2006.
And end of last month broke the record running a 10.17@132.58mph 10.18 vid http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=33w4ffl&s=7 1. 4th gens weren't pigs to begin with. Front fenders were plastic. I imagine they gut the interior completely and a lightened front K-member. Cutting out everything not needed.

Most of these cars are not gutted but do not have the creature comforts we are so used to either. We started out in the 4th gen community 14 years ago and have tons of customers running our lightweight suspension components. These cars can start out stock around 3300-3400 depending on options and we make a bolt-in front end suspension/K-member/brake package that drops 115 lbs. off the nose of the car! Removing the front sway bar, air conditioning, power steering and air bags drops another 100+ lbs. Drag wheels are another 80lbs or so. As you can see the car can already be under 3000 lbs. without even touching the interior. With the torque arm suspension under these cars along with the LS power and light weight, the 4th gen cars make perfect drag cars.
The nice thing about them is that by going a different route with your suspension build, the 4th gens handle really well too. They have a really tall front spindle with upper and lower A-arms. This setup produces a very flat camber curve and is very stable. The torque arm suspension in the rear is arguably one of the best suspension types to use for handling when using a solid axle. Again, add the light weight and LS power to the equation and you have a great road race car as well! |
