Anyone Else Had This Happen to Their Bumper?

So I was driving home from a football game this weekend (Hail State!) and on the way back I decided to get a bit of a rush. Got going a bit but not excessive in my opinion, just into 4th. When I got about halfway through 4th, the top portion of my front bumper flips up! It was not windy, I did not hit anything, there was no debris or anything.

So the top part flipped up. The two center plastic pins that hold the bumper/grill were still in place but the plastic had basically pulled forward away from the pins and tore the plastic where those pins went into the grille and bumper. When the top portion of the bumper flipped up, it pulled all the little pop tabs out of the grille and pulled off those brackets that hold it over the grille.

When that top part of the bumper flipped up, it cracked on both sides where the bumper begins to flow downward next to the top corners of the headlights.

I would have thought that at speeds around 120 this wouldn't happen. I've almost gone this fast at the drag strip with no issues whatsoever. The front bumper has never been removed from the car so it should have been on there fine. I know this is partially my fault for trying to go fast but again, I would have thought the car could handle it. I know I'm probably going to get some people saying I shouldn't have been going that fast, but hey, we all have to have fun and if it's a safe place to do it then why not. At least this gives me a legitimate reason to upgrade to a ZL1 front bumper.

Anyway, has anyone else had this happen to them?

You must have an early 2009 built... If I recall correctly a few had the same experience...

I believe mine is a very late 2010 build. Car has backup sensors did not have the GM chicklets on the sides.

That does seem scary, and odd. These cars are made to be capable of 150+ mph, so it would seem reasonable to assume the bodywork would be able to resist wind effect at that speed or less.

I had small cracks there on both sides. I fiberglass reinforced them from the inside and had it repainted.

I disagree! I don't care how much gas you give it, body parts shouldn't start falling off.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate the support. Unfortunately I doubt Chevy will take the hit on this because my car is out of warranty.

Several cars had those cracks in them. #230 had to have her front bumper replaced after she was bumped into down low. The front end after taking it off we found cracks in those areas. The car had been to 135MPH passing two log trucks. No time other than that had she been over 75 mph.
