Headers in Cali
I am asking a quick question about buying headers. What type of headers can I buy for my V8 Auto Camaro and still be able to pass smog in California?

Shorties only (shorties don't move cat converter location, unlike mids or long tubes)... unless you know someone who can "pass" your car, then you can look at long tubes

No problem, and thanks ! I don't have any now, I would love to get some American Racing LT's but don't want to deal with the trouble (stupid Cali smog requirements)..

Some shops don't even check to see if the cats are in the right place, so as long as you have high flow cats that will pass the sniffer test, you MIGHT be able to get away with it. I personally say screw it and have run catless regardless, and I'm planning on doing the same with my new project. |

Nice nice. Yeah I am not sure what brand to go with. I have been on a modding drought for about 6 months ha. Looking to get a little beefier sound with some new headers. What shorty headers have you looked at?

I was running long tubes and no cats when I lived in Cali. But the car wasn't up for smog for a while.
But yea, shorties are your only option if you're worries but smog. |

I personally haven't been looking at headers, I believe I have heard some people say shorties don't really offer any benefit over stock BUT I had Pacesetter shorties on my old '99 Firebird V6 and it made my exhaust deeper and louder! LOL I plan on skipping headers and going straight to FI
Denis is right, you CAN run LT's but when your time comes to smog your car (usually new cars don't have to smog for about 5 or 6 years), you would have to put your stock ones back on or find a "mod friendly" shop..

BBK has some nice shorties and some good long tubes with high flow cats. The shorties will be a lot less expensive starting at $299, but I'd jump on the ceramic coated ones at $399 instead. Long tubes with cats are going for $749 and up. Ceramic coat on those would be $849 (which of course, as I said before, is what I would go for).

Oh gotcha man. Yeah I mean I am not 100% on what I am exactly looking for, I know everyone is going to say just get a supercharger or something but I don't have the money for a SC and IDK how a SC would do with an automatic ha

Personally I'd go for the long tubes, but if you don't want headaches with smog and all that, then maybe go with shorties and an intake or something else to boost up the power. 6 months is a hell of a long time to go without a mod. I can't go 6 weeks without a mod let alone 6 months, but that's probably why I'm working here now isn't it, haha.
