wheel width questions

Im starting another thread because i have a question and searching "wheel width" isnt helping much.... im getting new wheels and tires tomorrow and am trying to find the pros and cons to wider wheels, im looking at either 20x10/11 , 20x9/10 or 20x9/11 wheels for the factory reproduction zl1 wheels. they all seem to have an offset that flushes with the fender and ive read what tire sizes should be on what rim but does a larger wheel give better handling, gas mileage, longer life, or just a better stance?

i would prefer to get the 275/315 nitto invos on the 10/11 inch rim but am wondering how much of a difference it would make going with a smaller wheel width and getting the hankook ventus tires that are on closeout right now, the largest tire they have is 285 which im guessing would go on a 10.

Definitely not better gas mileage, and the tire is the one that gives you better handling. The smaller the rim/tire combo, the less power the engine has to use to move the car. Stopping power will increase as the surface area of a tire increases. As far as life goes, depends on what category of tires you are interested in. Performance tires will last you around 18-35k miles depending on how you drive (not including track time). Wider tires all around will increase handling. I just went from 245/45ZR20 front, 274/40ZR20 rear, to 275/40ZR20 front, 295/35ZR20 rear. Ran the car for 200miles in 100+ degree weather, no problems so far. The stance has improved quite noticeably. Also cornering has gone up nicely. I will upload pics later of before and after. 285's are nice just saving up for 305's all around, now thats beast. Purely on looks I'd stagger them 20x9-9.5 fronts and 20x10-10.5 rear. If you want to keep performance stay with 20's, 22's and above are nightmares on public streets, especially in cali

I upgraded to 9" up front on 255/45/20 and 10.5" in back on 295/45/20 over my stocks. Car definitely grips the road better/faster but I have lost a little MPGs.

That is because you went taller in your tires then even the stock sizes. Theoretically, this does lower your rpm on the highway which is true, but it takes a little more throttle to get it going around town which sucks down gas as you are seeing.

I went with the 275/315 setup I'll have pics posted later I just couldn't pass up that wide stance look and now that they are mounted I couldn't see going to a 245/275 again

I have 20x9.5 on the front and am running a 285/35/20 tire.
I have 20x11 on the rear and am running a 295/35/20 tire, but could run a 315/35/20.

Mine is +9 front +10 rear , 275/40 and 315/35 nitto invo , for the rear i think max size u can go for +10 is 315 but in front really after installing 275/40 it's looks too wide , after using all of them i'll go for smaller size like 265/35 , 295/35 or 305/35 but it's not easy to find this size for daly use like invo or hankook tires !!
