Angry Raptor shift light

Has anyone been able to hook up the dual stage raptor shift light to a camaro yet? I hooked it up per the DIY here which matches the raptor website instructions but it's not working right. Whenever I tap the gas pedal or accelerate at any rpm the light blinks, and sometimes flashes. The other problem is that if the launch mode on the light is enabled it never turns off. Once it hits the launch rpm it turns on. As I start moving it stays on and starts flashing rapidly telling you that you're past the launch rpm and keeps on flashing as your moving and doesn't turn off untill you are below the launch rpm. If you turn the launch mode off you can use it as a shift light but it will still blink intermittenly at different rpm's I tried hooking it up to different injectors; same shit I tried hooking it up to the coil control wire (several different ones) at the pcm and it doesn't read at all I tried hooking it up to the crank sensor, set it at 8 cyl mode, and it blinked constantly at idle and would turn off and not come back on off idle Anyway I did notice a comment on one of the other threads that somebody here was getting something from raptor to hook it up to one of the coils, j/w if anything has happpened yet with that? I do like the light, it looks good in the car, and is a perfect size but the electrical system on this car is different. It doesn't have a tach output. Even the LS3 vette has a tach output Anyway I'll shut up now and hope somebody has an answer.

Thanks,

jrrod

At least there finally was post on how /where to connect into the wiring. I have the Lingenfelter rpm light and thier directions are clear if your used to dealing with the new cars but my experiance is with a 67 mustang and 69 nova. Lingenfelter instructions has more options to connect the wires.Go there and do a search mybe you just need to connect to one of the other options available.

I had the same problem. . . the DIY instructions posted on this board are incorrect.

You cannot use an injector control wire for the signal to the light. The injectors sometimes fire "make up pulses" which means that occasionally the injectors will fire multiple times per cyl on the intake stroke.

You have to get the signal for the shift light from a coil control wire. The problem with doing this is that the signal for the coil is very low voltage and the shift light cannot read it. The signal needs to be amplified before the shift light can use it.

Call Raptor and they will send you a voltage amplifier (they sent me one for free) and then get the signal from any one of the coils.

Dude you are a lifesaver I tried to hook up to all the coil control wires and couldn't get a signal. I even checked it with a lab scope and I was getting a signal on one of them but it wouldn't trigger the shift light Anyway, what you said makes perfect sense. I have realized that the electrical/pcm system on this car is very unique and different from most cars. Thanks alot for the input. Once I get that piece I'll update this thread with the new info and hopefully the mods will add it to the DIY section of the install Well I'm off to call Raptor....

Thanks,

jrrod

Hey E85LSX, is your launch mode on the shift light working properly cause my launch stays on even after the car moves.

Well just got off the phone with Raptor as I was typing. They're sending me a prototype amplifier for both the coil cicuit and the speed signal. Will post results after I get it and install it.

Thanks for the help,

jrrod

I don't have the one with the launch control, just the basic shift light

Just want to mention here....

Our Trinity has a user adjustable, LED shift light built in, and you can set it to display one LED, all 5 LEDs, or as a progressive shift light that will start at the bottom and work up to the top....just FYI!

The DIY instructions are correct per Raptor Performance Instructions..
The Manufacture's Instructions are incorrect. LOL
My shift light did work correctly..
the only minor drawback was the blip I would get when touching the accelerator. with the new added Amplifier, this should correct the problem..
The staging light worked, as well as the shift light.
