What's the real answer on why the LT4 blackwing puts out more power?
Is it the taller lid?
Intake, and exhaust better ? Is the throttle body the same? Dyno's 600 hp right stock ? |

Very true, I know how they do that on motorcycles, at the very top of the run, get off the throttle for a split second and back on, and it reads higher. But GM claims 18 hp more, so the is a slight increase, thank you for responding.

It's only supposed to make 18 more bhp but something is not quite right. From this article, the Blackwing LT4 picks up 60 rwhp from a supercharger porting. Still on a stock tune and everything else stock....I call bull....

The good news is that we know that there's more HP to be had, which has been demonstrated over and over. The even better news, all the accolades given to the CT5-V Blackwing can essentially be considered the same for the ZL1 given that the ZL1 weighs in less. That was one of the deciding factors (aside from the $40K price difference) in me getting the ZL1 and not the Cadillac, practically the same powertrain with less weight to haul around. If I had made more use of the backseat of my SS Sedan, then I probably would've had to reconsider the CT5-V non-blackwing. But in the end, I think I made the best decision for me. |

Lid and snout are different. The tune is also new and based on the new ECU architecture. Notable changes are a CPU that is roughly 100x's faster than the old and a wideband O2 sensor.
That combo gives the factory ECU a much wider range of authority. A Kong ported SC picked up 60hp with no other changes.

If they do decide to put this motor in the Camaro what would we guess the horsepower would be 660 or 665?

Not going to happen, but same power output I'm sure.

The difference is 18 hp, correct. That’s likely within production tolerances. I’d say not much of a difference.

Power output
My zl1 2017 put 604 whp. That’s with cold air intake stock tune. It really depends on dyno and weather conditions. More than anything else

The lid makes a difference. Remember it was the distinguishing factor between the zl1 and the v3 where the Cadillac had a squished down lid. That dropped the previous number to 640 bhp instead of 650 bhp.
Also, they did do something with the tune. The blackwing I drove at Laguna Seca idled very smoothly and did not have the normal lt4 intermittent stumble. It seemed a little peppier Fear not guys, the difference can be made up by getting a custom tune. I’m also not sure it’s worth sourcing a BW upper lid. Maybe can get another but for the money just get yourself a stock 1.7 blower Kong X ported, CAI and a tune and call it a day. |
