So what exactly is the complaint? The car hooks too good? Tire spin is worthless. I Wish my cars would hook and go. Congrats on having a pretty much perfectly set-up car.

If the LS3's are dynoing around 360-370 at the wheels, I would say L99's putting down 310-320 is not bad. There's a 25 hp difference right off the bat at the flywheel then probably another 30 that an auto gives up over a manual? Also, how many miles are on these "slow L99's?" I know most of the LS1 cars don't get peak performance and gas mileage until they have at least 3,000 miles. I wouldn't complain about performance until the car has about 4,000-5,000 miles. |

The first 0-60 numbers we got from one of the testers at GM was 4.9 sec 0-60 from the manual and 4.7 0-60 from the auto. He did say the auto had an aggressive tune. Later on once the car was released to Car mags, they all got mixed 0-60 numbers from the manuals given to them (no auto's were given) some got 4.9, some got 5.0, one got 4.6.. In other words it was all over the place.. Now we are getting real world numbers from actual Camaro owners and it seems there are fewer automatic SS people getting 4.7 than those getting over 5.. Now at this point, it may be the break in period or that some engines are simply faster than others as is possible. If there is a problem with some of the early builds and a flash is required for a more aggressive tune, then it should fall under warranty repair if indeed newer models built have a different program running the auto trans.. I would suspect that all of them should be able to run a 4.7 0-60 at the most and perhaps a 4.9 at the least if you get a slower L99.. I believe something is wrong if you are getting 5.5 second 0-60's with your L99 and getting beat by an older stock Mustang GT..

My thing is if i wanted a stick i would have got one. Why do i have to manual shift an auto to get performance. I have l99 auto blk 2SS. Seems to be strong. But my old 96 Z28 would win if those track #S mentioned earlier are true. My 96 ran 8.68 At 82 mph.Just my opinion. Have not taken to track yet. Has 1000 miles now with first oil change yesterday.

I can't wait to race an L99---I might win.
First I heard about them starting off in 2nd gear--that sucks!

2nd Gear Start Only for Sport & D Modes

Heck all the LS3 got was a six-speed manual, L99 owners got three transmissions in 1. 1) D position = Lazy Day driving, don't spill my beer 2) M position = Very Fast w/ high-rev shift-up/hard braking shift-down aggressively (finished with my beer, but my flip-off fingers are tired) 3) M+Trip-Tronic = six-speed manual without "Launch Control" to piss you off Can't beat that. Airbrush Work
Well actually it is airbrush work by a famous artist named Mike Lavallee, who is best known for real fire and doing hundreds of Jesse James West Coast Choppers (as well as Jesse's personal cars/trucks). Mike's shop just happens to be close to my home in Podunk.
Don't take offense, but I personally refuse to put plastic stickers on any car (well I do use Invisible-Mask to protect the paint) so I deleted the factory GCM Stripes aka the “vinyl package” as Mike called them, and asked Mike to do some painted SS stripes that match the factory grey/black GFX. Well I ended up with my Carbon Fiber SS stripes (yes over the roof and down past the license plate in the rear), Carbon Fiber Ground Effects all around the car, Carbon Fiber engine cover, Carbon Fiber interior door panels and Mike threw in the Carbon Fiber bowties w/ skulls to put a little more of his signature work into the car. Mike is pushing me to put in Carbon Fiber leather seat inserts in the front and rear seats. They would look sweet, but cost another $2K. I'm sure if you send him your bowties he would be glad to fix you up. Mike is a great guy and very easy to work with, but as an artist he is sensitive and takes great pride in his work, and knows what looks good and bad, so I listen to what he says. His web site is www.killerpaint.com phone 360.563.0501 email info@killerpaint.com. Cheers, Kevin
