This is most likely just for the Daytona 500, wouldn't stress too much about it. There's way too much doom and gloom going on this forum lately!

Yeah, this has nothing to do with the future of the Camaro. Using the Silverado as a pace truck for the Daytona 500 is simply GM marketing and advertising the truck. If GM wanted to use a performance car for pace duty, the Corvette and Camaro are available. I believe trucks have been used as pace vehicles in other NASCAR Cup races (Tundras, Silverados, etc.).

Speaking of advertising, has anyone seen a truck AD from GM with anything but a 2018 truck in it?

Yah and Dale Jr. Is the pace driver in the 2019 Silverado for the Daytona 500 on the anniversary of his fathers death. Feb.18,2001.

If it's a 1500 Silverado, full disclosure would be only fair to the NASCAR fans....
A little bit country, a little bit rock 'n roll, and a likely a lot of hecho in Mexico... http://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/12/...est-automaker/ |

Don't you know that you should never let facts get in the way of a good story?

The good story is just about over. The sad, real factual story is that when push comes to shove, US plants will get shut down by GM in favor of less expensive foreign plants. The Silverado already has one foot planted in Mexican grave. It's days in the US plants are probably already numbered.

Lordstown and Hamtramck didn't merit anything worthwhile new to keep them open. Mexico gets the new Blazer to keep it's plant open that is losing the Mexican Cruze. The best selling vehicle, full size Silverado, isn't worth keeping US workers employed by building Silverados or Blazers. Canada is probably still behind the US in losing workers in favor of Mexico. Sure, the US builds a lot more vehicles than the others, but the trend for profits and future products seems to be non US. Mexico is the beneficiary of high demand products sold in the US by GM, not US workers. |
