Delta T Data - CAI vs: Vararam
Below is a PDF file of some IAT Data I collected with a Cold Air Inductions intake and a Vararam Tune Model intake at the drag strip. Nothing fancy or scientific about the methodology, I just used the Ambient T, RH and Barometric P from the track's weather observations posted on Drag Times. The IAT numbers were retrieved from the car's ECM with EFILive data logs that I collected during my runs. No system in place as far time between runs, cool down strategy (hood open, hood closed, etc.), haphazard is the best way to describe it. This is raw data and I will not attempt to influence you with my conclusions. You'll have to look at the data and draw your own conclusions. Again, totally unscientific in methodology.
Hope this is worth something to someone on here, it was worthwhile for me. IATData.pdf I'll add to the Vararam data as the weather warms. |

Jeff, I actually just installed a Tune model Vararam as well. Based off what I saw in your logs and after talking to Patrick @ Vararam, I decided to install one for the Louisiana race trip. Results were awesome. I was leaving the line at 10* above ambient basically and I was cooled down to 5* or so above ambient at around the 100 ft mark.
The one thing I did see, is that at the top of the first 2 gears I was dropping to 97 kpa, but at the top of third and 4th, I was actually seeing a ram effect because Map KPA was 100! Nice data Jeff, as always, very thorough and detailed! |

Very impressive results for Vararam. I wish I could fit one on my 2012 without changing the radiator. I wonder if the New Era would get the same results?

This is what I've noticed as well for IATs but mention it on here and then fan boys jump on you as slandering a company that can do no wrong.

Get them to make it out of plastic and I would get it, otherwise you still have the same issue with metal intake tubes. I doubt I could run either with my giant flexalite radiator.

I think it's funny that there's usually 3 new threads a week about which intake is the best and then everyone jumps in with pure opinion.
Here's a thread that partially helps to answer that question, and provides actual data as backup, and only 4 different people have bothered to respond. Oh...and thank you for using "couldn't care less" correctly. That's one of my pet peeves. |

Totally agree, real data and facts just kills a thread

This is why I went New Era last year.

Funny thing, because I tested a CAI setup vs my own home made intake. My home made setup won hands down! Reason I found is because of heat soak in the tube. After a pass the aluminum tube was very hot, I had to ice it down and even after that my car was not running what it should. Installed my setup back on and instantly picked back up. I posted this and was told my test and results don't count... Even though this on the track same day! Also drove daily with both intakes and noticed the so called Better intake was making my car feel much softer on a hot day. Lol whatever, I know what works and what don't on my car. Let people over pay for crap and run slow. The VR might not be pretty but it's the only one I will pay money for.

Good data. You should also log KPA of the two intakes.

Chris, I still have all the logs on my desktop computer. I can go back and look and see if that data exists for the CAI, but if it doesn't it's gone because I sold the used CAI. I'm pretty sure it exists for the Vararam, but it is in PSI. No problem though because 100 KPa equals 14.5 PSI. If you really think it is worthwhile I can see if I can dig it out. I'm retired and have plenty of time and usually looking for something to do to keep from getting bored. Let me know.
Jeff PS I looked at one of the CAI logs and the MAP exists in PSI, so if you want me to add it speak up. |

I can say the vararam in 3rd and 4th will go back up to 100 kpa, where the CAI will drop down some, likely to about 96-97 kpa. That's what I saw on mine anyways.
