Thanks for the help so far. With the hurricane, everything has been running slow or shut down
So what happened and what's your AFSC?

Right now I'm just waiting. Allstate got me a rental but only for 2 days. I called Geico(my insurance). To let them know I'd definitely need longer since they haven't even finished an estimate for damages and was basically told to kick rocks since I decided to take it to a lawyer. I'm dumbfounded by the level of disrespect and unprofessionalism I've been shown with the entire incident

You decided to take it to a lawyer to get it totaled? So, assuming this. They did not want to total it, but instead fix it?

I took it to a lawyer because the guys insurance offered 6400 to fix it. That wouldn't even be enough to fix the bumper, 1/4, trunk and light with paint. Not to include the fact that both axles were yanked out of the differential and the exhaust folded around the rearend. So yes I took it to a lawyer. And they are saying since I don't have diminished value on my insurance then I'm not getting that for it either. Which is bs if you ask me.

Prior, I was at Shaw for 6 long years. I'm POL(Fuels).

You should definitely switch over to USAA, I had a lady total out my parked '13 and they handled it perfectly even gave me credit for my shorties and Borla exhaust without receipts.

Now that I think about it you posted in the Camaro group when this happened. I said you almost made it.

The orders you get from Randolph was the only way me and a lot of people I worked with got out of there.

Yeah it sucks but I'm just arguing with insurance and lawyer now. I have full coverage through Geico but they're saying since I don't have diminished value on my policy then I'm not getting compensated. I said that that's bs and it should obviously come from the guys insurance since he's at fault.

Have any of you ever had to sign a power of attorney for a body shop? It seems shady, they want power of attorney, release of liability in case of damage and checks signed directly to them from insurance company(nothing through me).

I asked since exhaust is damaged and insurance is paying, I want cutouts after headers and bullet mufflers or similar.

He told me they wouldn't do anything but stock repair. I said to leave the exhaust off and just give me what they write for exhaust repair.

Shop manager said to get a quote and he'd cut a check from what the insurance gives him.... To me this is shady as hell and sounds like he's trying to pocket cash.

Especially with all the stipulations and wanting complete control of everything.

I have had to sign a POA for a body shop. It was explained to me that it allows the body shop to deal directly with insurance to get any extra $$/checks in case there were other items/services needed that weren't itemized in the original quote, causing the price to exceed the original quote.

This cuts you out as a middle man. I had no problem doing this since I am personal friends with the service manager and trust him to not let me get screwed over. Besides that my repair was minor with an original quote of $1300 which turned out to to be just over $3000 after they found further damage; and I still only had to pay my deductible wile insurance had to pay more.

In your case I would want to make sure I was in the loop and able to document everything personally. I believe this means you will have to basically take the checks from insurance to the body shop, after the insurance agent sends someone to approve those further repairs. Hope this makes sense and someone please correct me if I'm wrong or missing something. Good luck.

Yeah, that's definitely wrong. You should get diminished value as well since it wasn't your fault in the accident. Your car is now worth less because of someone else's negligence. Ugh!

Update, no diminished value settlement, 12k in damages to include frame damage and they refuse to total. Shop manager tried to steal 1500+ from the exhaust portion of the repairs. I'm getting the car straight piped and he refused to give me the cut from it(2154.92). They also refused to replace the damaged wheel that was gouged full circle by the lower trailing arm. Guys insurance refused to pay for the rental past the 16th and so I had to turn it in and they tried sticking me with a 207 dollar bill. Allstate is trash.
Oh well, suing the **** out of them, 3 bulging discs, 1 herniated disc and a pinched nerve so I'm gonna get mine.
