Instead, I traded it and bought a 2011 Dodge Avenger Heat. While a big drop in HP (375ish to 283) and torque (410 ftlb down to 260), I picked up quite a bit of fuel economy (4+ MPG highway and 3+ city), an extra gear ( 6spd vs 5) and shed over 500 pounds (4100 vs 3600).

Pics to follow, its a great little car with plenty of power. At least I'll still get to race.........in sport compact.

ugh.

But in time I will be able to get another muscle car, but times and cash flow has dictated a change, and I have obeyed.

Love live the muscle car.
That's too bad. We are really loving our Challenger. Car really woke up after the Diablo tune. Positive I could run 12's in good weather/track conditions.

Wife has talked me out of cam and tq converter with 3.73 rear gear, long tubes, etc.... She wants a quiet daily driver so she can listen to her tunes. Oh well.....more fun money for the Mustang.

Don't you also have a 2011 GT? I could be mistaken.

I live in Oregon and I can not wait to get out. I have been lucky with animals, the only deer I have ever hit was in a Chevy Aveo rental car . Took a racoon out with my Honda but no real damage. Moving to WA to avoid a lot of the crap around Oregon, especially the cinders.

And the cost of the Challenger was primarily in repair. I hit a raccoon a few weeks back..and tore the lower spoiler off and cracked the bumper cover. Yes..a simple animal did 1600 dollars of damage.

The simple fact is that I couldnt afford to keep shelling out insurance deductibles over and over again every time something happened. This was after I had a semi-tire blow out and send the tread into the front of the car at 75 MPH (that was August, $1000 bucks gone of my share of a 2200 dollar repair) and before that after someone backed into the car and left it in a parking lot (again, $1000 of about 1900). That combined with new tires in Sept..I spent nearly $3000 in just repairs.

And yeah..I may regret this later, but oh well. Such is life, I had to do the right thing now.
Wouldn't you still be out over $3K if you had the Avenger? Sounds like it's insurance and not mechanical repairs so I don't understand why you trade a car in when you insurance deductible is to high?

Hate to see your Challenger go...I don't post lots here anymore but do read still and you seemed to have really liked that car! My wife wouldn't part with her SRT8 Challenger for nothing! It is nice...got to give it to Dodge!

Good luck with everything and hope to see you in a 392 down the road!

Damn, Viper, sorry to hear of that. I am still considering buying a Challenger R/T somewhere in the future.....should I be concerned about fit/finish or reliability issues?

I didn't see him really mention any reliability issues. The repairs it seems were all due to road hazzards and such, which by the way could have occured with any car. This seems to be a financial move based on his statement of "but times and cash flow has dictated a change"

Yeah, I thought the same thing....but was just curious. Agreed, could have happened with any car. I am seriously considering an R/T ( I already have an SS I am keeping) and I am looking for a former R/T owner's insight.

Why not get a base or lower model V6 Mustang or Camaro? Save on gas and still have a quickish car and the looks of a muscle car.

Hate to see you get rid of the Challenger. BTW, my fuel milage on my SRT-8 with the Hellion turbos is averaging 21.3 presently. The fuel milage actually increased after the turbos were installed and tuned. Go figure.

45,000 miles in 17 months is really doing some driving.

At least you got your use out of it.

I have to agree with everyone else that it sounds like you would have been paying your deuctible no matter what you were driving.

That being said, hope you enjoy your new car. They are really nice.

I hit a raccoon with my old car and didnt even hurt it, almost the exact same conditions.

I support people getting the Challenger, just know the front end and front spoiler is quite fragile.

And the only reason why I did not get a base Camaro or Mustang V6 is because I do kind of need 4 doors.

I just have to ask...
48k miles in 17 months? Thats a lot of driving. I'm sure some will hammer you about the depreciation, but it sounds to me like you got your moneys worth. Repairs not included of course.

Anyways, good luck with the new car dude.

During the summer I was working for the Federal Government up about 100 miles north. They were paying me well enough that I was able to actually make more money by commuting (they paid travel expenses)..so roughly 1000 miles a week for 11 weeks.

Yep.

Clearing out the Challenger and walking away from her at the dealer was one of the hardest things I have ever done in terms of automotive stuff.

But..maybe a 392 is in my future, ya never know. I'll still be on Camaro5 tho
