Stage 1-3 Cams

Wondering why there are different stage cams?

What does each one mean?

Which cam would you recommend for that nice low lumpy
sound we all love ?

How does that work? More lump, valves are open longer?

Bingo. There's not a value to each since every company has their own definition of each stage.

This is a generalization to help explain - not meant to be an exacting technical answer. The higher the lift (the 6xx numbers - opens the valves further) and/ or the duration ( the 2xx numbers - how long the valves are open in degrees) the more agressive ( more peak HP, the higher in the rpm band the power curve is , the greater likelyhood of low speed drivability issues) the cam tends to be. A good tuner can bend within reason any aftermarket cam's performance to tame some of the drivability concerns, give more lope at idle, maximize peak performance - etc.

So go with a stage 2?

Going to be doing city driving as well as highway. Also
drag and some track eventually.

When i was shopping for a cam i seen it this way! (Not saying this is true but this is how i seen it)

under a 220 intake duration= Stage 1
221-229 intake duration=stage 2
230 and up= stage 3

the higher the intake duration the more power you can get. And the better it will sound, and less driveablity you will get.

You have an A6 or M6?
