So, there are currently 7, yes 7 VTCs for sale here on the forum underc the V6 section.
Did I miss something while I'm in the hospital?
What's going on?

Some people get tunes which may have fixed the throttle lag, and the VTC's aren't compatible with every Camaro (Lots of posts about these issues.) You couldn't pay me to put one back on my car.

I get it about the tunes improving throttle response.
I also know they don't always play nice with the VMAX PTB, but it's just strange that there are 7 for sale at the same time

Those are all very old threads that were bumped yesterday when one guy was frantically trying to find someone to sell him one. Lol.

So are they that bad or did they fix the issue with the newer style one?

It's not as simple as them being particularly 'bad', it's just that they give minor benefits if any at all. All a VTC physically does is make your gas pedal more sensitive, which gives no performance benefit except to trick your car's ECU into thinking that the pedal is to the floor when it's not.

A VTC gave me CEL problems, and eventually burned out the circuits that it plugged into, which repeatedly put my car into limp mode.

Once you actually start to modify your engine components and get actual performance benefits the VTC starts to show diminishing returns, as well as becoming less compatible the more work you have done.

My car as well went into limp mode. Onstar diagnostics said the accelerator pedal wasn't connected and causing the reduced power. It was fun while it lasted though.

Should I skip the throttle control and just get a vmax or 80mm throttle body ? I don't plan to do a tune for awhile yet can I run these without a tune and see any improvement?
