Just picked up an IROC-Z for my girl!

She has been wanting a hot rod for a looooooong time and she's constantly sending me links to junk that she finds on craigslist, and other local sites. We looked at a red '86 IROC a few weeks ago for $3995 that was a hunk of shit. Rust on every panel, interior rips everywhere, just a total roach. Would need $5k into it just to make it presentable. So fast forward to 2 days ago and she sends me a link to another red '86. It looked real nice in the pictures, so we went to take a look. Bought it on the spot after we talked the guy down a bit. It is very solid, zero rust underneath and a tiny bit on the inside of the doors. The paint has been touched up in a few spots (in a slightly different color, kinda aggravated about that), but it's a much better car to start with. It's a highly optioned car with 3.23's, the rare center upper console, T-Tops, TPI 305, etc, etc. He was asking $4800, and I talked him down to $4200. My girl is a happy camper!

Nice.

I have a 92' RS that my step dad drives now.

What is this "upgraded" center console you speak of?

It has a map light, a pocket for holding a map (not in this picture) a mileage reminder for service, and a tiny flashlight that pops out.

My first Camaro was an '87 Iroc - L98 (that's a TPI350) and the 3.42 rear. In my teenage hands it sure seemed like a rocketship. That started the trend of Camaro's that was followed by an '86 Berlinetta with a reasonably street built (ie. small cam, mild stall) motor, then a '96 Z/28 6Spd Vert, and now the 2011 SS.

That one looks nice and clean - enjoy!

Awesome! Great find. These are my favorite gen Camaro. My first car was an 89 RS.

I've owned 2 third gens myself an '87 IROC 305 TPI, and a '91 Z28 350 TPI with G92. All of the mint or excellent red IROC's we could find on eBay were going for $18k-$28k. So even when/if she decides to get hers painted she'll still be way ahead.

All I can say is that if any of you guys are in the market, buy them right now! They are starting to skyrocket in price.

An IROC-Z for $4,200 is a steal. An IROC-Z in that condition for $4,200 is insane!

Nice! enjoy it. I've owned several 3rd Gens myself and miss every one of them. Started out with an 89 black IROC-Z vert when I was 21, then moved on to teal 92 RS coupe, a black 87 Corvette vert then an red 87 IROC-Z t-top 350 and now the 2011 2LT.

That interior?!? Ugh. What was Checy thinking? Black would look soooooooo much better. Congrats on the steal. I wish you lots of happy days a head with it.

I love the medium-dark blue that came on the IROC towards the end. I never got into the 4th gens.
