I've put forth 2 plans.

First is both the Z/28 and ZL1 will use the LT4. The ZL1 will be a street version with all the comforts and awesomeness. The Z/28 will get significantly light weighting and perhaps get the CC brakes. Think offsetting the increase of the LT1 and envision a 3,650 pound car with 650 HP.

Second is GM has an LS7 replacement. A 500 plus HP NA engine that could work well in a C7 Gran Sport and does better at keeping cost in line. The Z/28 gets that, light weighting and the ZL1 gets the HP and comfort.

Can't wait to see.

Reading through all of this brings back memories of guessing what was in store for the 5th gen. Although we all thought we knew better...the Z/28 did kind of take everyone by surprise. We knew it could be done...I think a lot of people just didn't think they had the guts to pull it off.

We know that GM is subject to the CAFE standards...and this might limit what they are able to do in terms of engines/performance variants. However...with the advent of the GT350R, I think if team Camaro really wanted to answer back, they could.

I can see any of the described "visions" come true. Interestingly, I don't think a 1LE is necessary...if you think about it...anything that might come with the package can already be purchased, or is already included on the standard SS: buy a manual SS with the forged wheels, the 6-piston brakes, and a lowering kit, and what you've got is a car equipped with all the same coolers, light wheels, stiff suspension, and exceptional performance and driving dynamics that the old 1LE had...plus some.

Regarding the 1LE all the above mentioned items could be offered as a simple package (including MR), which is all it was before, an SS package. Tick 1 box get it all, with some badges (this time?).

But why offer it all in a package if it's already all available? Just thinking aloud...

Also - I don't think MR is appropriate for the 1LE, given that it's illegal in competition.

Transmission and rear end gearing are still missing from the equation as are tires and a vinyl covered hood. The suspension could still use an upgrade and they could really show what this platform is capable of with the right tire setup. It wasn't just the bolt on parts that made the 5th gen 1LE great it was all the time they spent fine tuning before they released the package. Just because base SS handling is much improved doesn't negate the 1LE it just means an Alpha 1LE will be a hell of a car. The run flats themselves are leaving a lot on the table. I'm loving how much Motortrend is in love with the Camaro, makes me want to upgrade but that's not likely for me. Great times for the Camaro are just ahead.

I don't think a few square feet of vinyl are all that integral to the idea of a 1LE.

Agree with the rest though (almost said a version of it on Camaro6 just now)

You can't have the sun glaring in your eyes when you're on the track now can you? Apparantly the glare on the Z/28s hood wasn't important, but that's neither here nor there.

Also the 1LE was a good way to get more "good" press.
