I have a cam ready to go in and now I have to decide if I want to do gmpp heads to go with it.
Ahh man, that sucks dude. Sorry to hear it. Hopefully the bottom end is all ok, I know your plan was to get the cam in anyways, and a set of heads will compliment that nicely.

What springs and retainers were in there? How many miles on them? I know the TI supposedly wears more quickly than the tool steel ones - wondering what may have caused this. Just looking to learn and avoid for myself down the road.

It would be interesting to see pics of what's left of the retainer.

Sometimes shit just lets go and you're screwed I think!

Totally agree - I'm not interested in doing any finger pointing, just learning. Maybe the higher ratio rockers play some sort of roll, who knows. It would be interesting to see the failure retainer, and some pictures of the other ones to compare to.

I had psi1511 springs with BTR Titanium retainers. This set up was approaching 50K miles. I literally just checked them in November when I put the 1.85 rockers back on for my last track outing. Shit happens......... I used a bore scope and the piston has just a couple mars in it. Should be able to use a cookie and clean it up hopefully.

Damn man, that sucks!! Sometimes shit just happens I guess. Glad to hear it at least looks possible you can just clean up bottom end, so hopefully the damage was as little as possible!

Teamed up with GPI and will be using the ss4 flycut cam and their 281cc heads milled .042 with .040 gaskets....... Should be a stout combo!

Can't go wrong with GPI stuff. What's the estimated CR with that setup? Should be a good bit more squeeze - and those GPI lobes are no joke!

Be really close to 11.4-11.6 Which will help with making it snappy off idle and E85

Oh ya, especially with a lightweight Vette, somewhere in the 9 second range.

How much do you plan on fly cutting? What rocker ratio do you pan on running?

Same setup as mine. SS4, .04 gasket, milled GPI heads and cut .095-.100 pistons. I believe the GPI heads and cam have seen some updates since I purchased mine a couple years ago though. I’m using a GPI rod mod intake that I ported. Interested to see how the LOD and Mid Runner work for you. I plan on making some changes soon. Hunting for 9’s.

You should be able to get it into the 9’s with the vette with that setup.
