2010 camaro ss power steering issues
Been fighting this issues for awhile now, figured it was time to post up and see if anyone else might have some ideas as this issue is starting to wear on me lol
Short story: awhile back removed engine and tranny to do some work and put back in, after reinstalling i forgot to add power steering fluid before firing it up, ps pump took a crap, replaced with a cardone pump from rock auto When i turn the steering wheel either all the way to left or right about 1/2 way it shudders (for about 1/4 of a turn then seems to smooth back out somewhat Reservoir was full of bubbles and boiled over so after some more trying to bleed new pump failed, did find a small leak on reservoir return line crimp, so bought a after market cooler and reconfigured stock line to new cooler, and got a replacement cardone pump Still having same issue, just now without air bubbles in reservoir First thought was might need to replace the rack, or maybe the rack still has trapped air maybe Thanks

Jacket up the front end and work the steering lock to lock.
Of course, new doesn't mean good. |

Why did you use Cordone instead of AC Delco?

You need to put a vacuum on the system to pull all the air out, The shudder is air in the system. You would need an adapter for this, Make sure the level is at the bottom of the filler neck and put 7-10in of vacuum and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, Then top off and put 15in of vacuum on the system while turning the wheel back and forth. Check the level and adjust, start the engine and check for assist and noises, repeat if necessary

It seems you have gone through many things with the steering power system! You have already replaced the pump and sealed the reservoir leak, which means that the air may still be trapped in the system, especially if the bleeding process was not thorough. Don't forget to follow the right way for the Mechanical steering system to be bled completely; in some cases, after a few times you turn the wheel from side to side fully, the air gets out. Moreover, if the shuddering still exists, you should also examine the steering rack and hoses that the steering rack is connected to, they might have been damaged or have blockages. For those who have already tried everything else and are desperate for a solution, replacing the rack may be the real problem as it is likely to be a contributing factor.

Sorry for the delay in response, life, i have tried jacking it up, and working side by side with no change in results, initially used atf as thats what always used, but drained and tried ps fluid,
I have tried to find a ps flush kit that had a adapter that would fit the reservoir, but they all seem to be universal plugs that need held in place, think someone would make a twist on cap…. Cardone was on in stock, and didnt want to wait as was trying to fix asap Might go ahead and replace rack, as just want to get the car fixed, so it not just sitting in the garage lol

Could the issue be with the rack itself rather than air in the system? Since you've already replaced the pump, cooler, and reconfigured the lines, it might be a good idea to check the rack. Additionally, would it be worth trying a different brand of power steering pump or reservoir to eliminate any potential compatibility problems?
