Winter Tires for my 2010 Camaro in Canada

Hello all,

I am posting this new thread hoping that I will stimulate a Canadian 2010 Camaro owners' winter tire hub. I had a 1975 Camaro that could not logically be driven in winter but my 2010 2LT V6 arrives as winter here in Quebec, Canada hits... so, I am looking for help in figuring out HOW to best deal with this reality...

Thanks in advance,
eB

So, here is the first post of this thread. I sold my 75 Camaro two weeks ago and put some of that cash on a deposit for a new 2010 2LT. I await my VIN, and will inform on my progress. MY BIG CONCERN now is what to do with my tire choice for the Canadian winter ahead. I expect delivery some time in October 2009. That gives me about 9 or so weeks of summer rubber then the winter wheels will have to be installed. I have priced the GM "heritage steel" wheels offered on the LS 2010 Camaro as my winter wheel of choice, but I am open to other possibilities. If I could turn my 2010 Camaro into an SUV with bigass, thin and tall wheels, I would. Anybody have any crazy ideas? I will dump big and heavy sandbags in the trunk when I drive my 2010 in the snow...just like my parents did when they trucked me around in the 70's...

More craziness to follow..... eB

the only thing i would do is buy the best winter tires possible. Should work fine but does not guarentee that the driver behind you wont be stupid. Its law now isnt it to have snow tires on in the winter? I was born in Montreal and always go there.
What colour did you order for your 2LT?
Im keeping my car stored for this winter and hopefully all winters

I wish I could afford that. Mine should technically come in around mid-december. My current lease ends on February, so no choice, I've got to buy winter tires this year! I was wondering which brand and size to use. The 2LT/RS comes with 20" tires, but I've been told to go with 18" winter tires. The dealer was nice and told me to go buy them myself as they upmark is rather high!

You'd definitely want 18" steelies rather than 20" alloy wheels in the winter. It will work better, keep your aluminum rims in good condition, and is better for the tires. As I understand it, the Challenger/Charger/300/Magnum use similar wheel sizes to the Camaro, so there should be enough options if you buy a winter wheel and tire set.

honestly, rather than spend a couple thousand for a set of tires and rims, just get a crappy second car to rod the piss out of in the winter!

I wish, but factor in that I'd need to buy a crappy car, then buy it winter tires (albeit cheaper ones, but they are still mandatory here in Quebec), then pay the plates and insurance, then pay storage for the Camaro (no way I'm storing it in my garage and spend the winter shoveling off my car a 6h30 in the morning!) and it's finally a lot cheaper to get some good winter tires and steel rims!

Ya, Phil! I hear you! I also live in Quebec (MTL) and I know just how hard winter can hit! I traded in my 4x4 SUV AND my 75 Camaro for the 2010, so I have to find the right tire/wheel combo that works for real here in "la belle province". I really don't mind if I have super thin tires that look silly....it's all about the physics of traction. I bought myself a manual LLT 6 Camaro and with all that traction-tech and right winter tire choice, I think that I will be better off than the BWM 3 driver with his stoopid aluminium mags and fatass rubber that is only a set of ski's on our Mt Royal...

My GM salesman told me that GM canada is working on a tire/wheel combo package that he will tell me about asap.

talk to you all soon!

Oh, and TJ91... I bought the 2LT Manual in Summit White. No stripes, they can go on later. I have not yet seen it in white, but I love white on cars. The only option I chose was a block heater! I DO live in Canada, eh? eB

I went to tire rack and got the Pirelli Scorpions delivered for $1100 cheaper then Fountain tire here in Alberta. Awesome tire. Theres a thread on here sponsored by Tire Rack. Thats where I did my research.
