Planning to Move to the Charlotte Area
Hey all,
I plan to move to the Charlotte, NC Area after graduation this semester (sometime after Jan) and wanted to ask what areas to check out/avoid and a major one which shops to trust with my baby. Also looking for a place to rent (hopefully a townhouse/house with a garage) and an IT job, but that will come once I graduate and hit the pavement when I can actually work the next day. -Rakito

SL Customs, PCM of NC, and JHR Performance, all are in Mooresville (about 20 min from Charlotte).

Welcome to Charlotte!
We know a little bit about the 5th Gen. Our tuning is done in Charlotte at a NASACAR engine shop. Are you more interested in track time or car shows? |

JHR is fantastic. I Took my Z28 in there today and they fixed me right up. Jamie is a heck of a guy and keeps his customers happy. They gained a customer for the forseeable future now.

what they all said^^^^^^^
As far as where to live that depends on where you get a job. I would recommend staying outside the 485 loop. Less traffic, better deals on homes/townhouses. Yet still right near the city |

Thanks all for the replies. JusticePete I plan to try and get some track time once I settle down and figure out how much I have to spend on fun. I agree GVA, looking at places there were some pretty good deals outside of 485 loop. I got a friend who lives on the inner 485 and I've been around looking at places for rent. I'll definitely keep all these places in mind when I need work done once I move.

Rakito, GoodGuys will be in Charlotte at the end of the month. I'll be at VIR with a client October 25th and 26th and his beast of a Camaro. We finalized the aero design and he'll be running fresh 325/30/19 rubber all a round. Spectators are welcome and the pits are open.

You are going to love the Charlotte area. I moved here from Tennessee a year and a half ago for work. Tons of stuff to do, and some of the nicest cars I have ever seen- after all it is NASCAR Country. Gasoline and 5W30 run through people's veins here.
Also- JusticePete is a car whisperer. I definitely suggest you check out his the build thread for the Camaro above^^^ He can steer you in the right direction for anything you need shop/car/race related. |

JHR is the best! They did a cam for me and I love it. Good guys and reliable work.

I would do the exact opposite of this in my opinion... inside the 485 loop they can't build any more homes... traffic is what traffic is. well at least in south charlotte. South Charlotte is the best place to live in my honest opinion. I have lived ptown and in plaza midwood... south Charlotte is the best!

I'm not too far south of Charlotte on the South Carolina side of life. Always something going on it seems between Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Charlotte, and Columbia, SC isn't too far away from Charlotte. The car scene is pretty crazy around there too.

UPDATE:
I have a move-in date Jan 9th. And hopefully the next upgrade to my car (after settling in) is new Rims and Tires to get off these 21" rims.
