Great info! Even with the improved rust resistance, I always do what I can to stack the odds in my favor. Y'all have definitely given me an edge with that.
Here's hoping I can grab a good one. I sure do miss the days when decent used cars didn't seemingly come and go in a single day. |

As someone else said, check the rear fenders near the bumper and bottom seams of the doors for bubbles under the paint.
Also have a look underneath at some of the stamped steel parts, control arms and mounts. Here are some of a 2010 that I decided against buying: |

Mine is a 2015 2SS in Minnesota, Never driven in winter always in garage, only 7800 miles on it. I put most of those on the first 2 summers. Last 2 summers I only put about 400 miles on the whole summer. Not even a rock chip on it so there are some nice ones out there. Not sure how much longer I'm going to keep mine. When I do sell it someone is going to get a nice one.

I bought mine used with 12k on it. I bought a couple cans of eastwood internal rust inhibitor with the long tube and nozzle taped up all the holes I could find and sprayed the crap out of it. to further protection. yeah I don't like rust either.

having recently visited a friend in vermont I noticed rot and rust on a lot of fairly new cars. the kind of stuff you used to see in the 70's. he told me it was from the pure road salt they use. I live in nj and have not seen one car with that kind of rust. they must use a lot of that salt up there. so my advise is NOT buy a car from vermont.

The biggest cause is many folks don't take care of their cars in the winter like they do in the warmer months. I don't care if they forecast snow for a week straight, I will run my cars through the car wash no matter what, and try to get the under carriage rinse. I know it's bad for the surface of the car but I can buff out swirls and scratches a lot easier than repair rust damage. Having said that, the Camaro stays in the garage at any hint of salt nowadays.

You can usually see rust, I'd be more concerned about cars from around the ocean beach areas and flood cars from the South......
