Just replaced the original battery in my 2010 last week. Got almost 10 years out of it. Replaced with Duralast Gold

Hey guys. Quick question. My battery has been acting a little tired lately and it’s still the original. If it’s starting to go bad can it start dragging down the voltage while the cars running. The car always runs at about 14.5 v but today after a few minutes of run time the voltage drops down to 12.5
Never had this issue before so could the battery be starting to short out ? Voltage with the car off is right at 12 and if it sits it drops to 11.6 or so.
Just had me scratching my head as the running voltage never dropped until today and it’s not my daily so I was putting off buying a battery but thinking I had better just get one now
Thanks

Usually, anything below 12.6 volts is a battery on it’s way out. If it is the original battery, you got your money’s worth. Time for a new one.

Bought a new battery this morning. Had my old one tested and it showed as needing to be charged plus the voltage was down close to 12. Got 20% off the Advance Auto platinum battery plus another 10% gift card so I decided to just buy it over ordering one on line. Car turns over faster than I can ever remember so maybe the battery has been on the decline for a little while.
This new battery shows 12.8 in the car and 13.3 with a volt meter and so far the running voltage has been 14.4 to 14.9 and isn’t dropping like it was yesterday

If your reading over 12V, your Batt. is fine. The way the charging system works , if it see's the Batt. is fully charged, the charging system shuts off and you'll read just your Batt. Voltage (just over 12V). If your Batt. is down a little, then the charging system turns on and depending on how much it's down will determine what you see for Voltage

It's July 2020 and my battery is now giving issues... 11years... not bad I have to say. Probably would have kept going but I let it sit 2 weeks without a tender. 1st time ever without driving for so long.... now it will be replaced with an org. ACDelco. Sad day.... but very fortunate. Always go with factory parts... just my opinion.

Just over 12 is not necessarily “fine”. 12.6 or better and even then, doesn’t mean it will have all it’s cranking amps. Charging system checked in proper working order. Mine was 13 after coming back from a ride and it still turned over slower than usual. Hence it got replaced.

I replaced mine today even though it was still ok.

I didn't want it to fail and leave me stranded.

I got a new Motomaster AGM battery with a 84 month pro-rated warranty/24 months free replacement.
