Been fighting with the fuel gauge on the Holley dash. When I first found the wire and got it hooked up it was showing 92% which seemed to be fairly close to what the cluster was showing, it was just below the full mark.
Anyways after a short drive it dropped to 88% and stuck there. Now after a few drives it's back to 100% when it should be 1/4 tank or so.

Over the weekend I discovered that when the key is in acc mode the Holley dash seems to read normal. It's showing 18% and when I plug in the cluster it's showing just under 1/4 tank. Within reason anyways. But start the car or put the key in run mode it's 100%. I've been looking to see if there is any kind of adapter harness but not finding anything.

Pretty sure I have figured it out though. The flex fuel sensor harness that is used with GM sensor to Holley ECU has a "pull up resistor" in line so that the Holley reads it correctly. So I am thinking the fuel level wire needs the same thing so that the 5v current isn't messing with the ohms signal. Still trying to read up on this before trying it though.

I also found some metal debris in the meth tank so I have it apart for cleaning. I also found some metal in the plastic jug I take to the track with me.. ugh!
So will get that cleaned out as well and try to figure out where this is coming from. I keep the lids very tight and use a filtered funnel when pouring from the VP can into the plastic tank.

Awesome stuff, and great work!
Some of those parts, like the C-D Convertor, are like artwork, and almost a shame to hide it under the car. Like my challenges I am having Painting Panels, I can appreciate a fellow wrench who soldiers on and has the patience to get things completed. You got one killer ride Brother!

Wonder if it is back feeding somehow with the key in run. Is there a diode in line?

Sucks about the metal, any idea where it came from?

As always sir, great work!

Thank you Brian!

On the wire for the fuel sender, no diode in that line. I just tapped into the primary fuel level sender wire near the fusebox to the Holley Dash.

I did check ohms at the fuel pump and it's reading 90 ohms. Glad I have the fuel pump access panel... lol. I checked the fuel level on the cluster and it was showing just over 1/4 tank last night. Based on my math below thats seems about right.

Fuel level sender is 33-250 ohms. So the working range is 217

Full - 250
3/4 - 195.75
1/2 - 141.5
1/4 - 87.25 (cluster is just over 1/4 tank, reading at pump is 90ohms)
Empty - 33

One thing I am not sure of is if removing the fuel level signal in the factory harness will mess with anything in the car. I cant see how it would since the secondary fuel level sensor would still be active. I have contemplated clipping the factory level sensor wires at the pump and just wiring directly to the Holley dash. Not in a hurry here and will ask Ben about it when at GPI on Friday.

On the metal, havent found the source just yet which is frustrating. The tank has an aluminum spin on cap and I wondered if it's from that. I put some silicone spray on the threads and it spins on much easier now. So that might just be it. But not 100% sure.

Took the car to GPI yesterday and now ready to rip! Still have a few things to tidy up with the wiring harness but can get that done here in a few days. Time to drive it around some more.

Pic after loading back up and leaving GPI.

Got the transmission wiring harness bundle cut down and stuffed the end into the open cavity under the fuse box. Also shortened and re-pinned new connectors on the crank & knock sensor and new eyelet on the energizing wire for the starter. Took about 20" out of the starter/knock & crank sensor harness.

Pic from the top - cant see it! lol

Oh, and this happened on Saturday while driving around.. Didnt notice it till I was working on the wiring tho..

Going to see if I can get it repaired, not sure if they can do it since it has at least 6 spider legs. So might be getting a new windshield.. ugh..

Lol.. Yes, I did test the trans brake Thursday afternoon on a quick drive. worked like it should and the tires were screaming for help! lol I have the 17's on it for street driving so it doesn't take much to get them spinning even with 15 degrees of timing pulled out.. lol
