You're going to get a lot of mix on this. I for one love the 5th gen but then again it's kind of like your 3rd gen. I bought my car as a gift to myself and I've been building it over the years. I've worked on it plenty of hours and many of those hours is busting knuckles with my father so that's even more special.

I personally would just keep the 5th gen or sell it. The 3rd gen and swapping in the 5th gen parts seems like a headache and nothing is a guarantee that the 3rd gen will work trouble free. There's always that chance that it'll nickle and dime you and then you won't have time or money to put into that. Then you take an even larger financial loss trying to fix that or sell it as is. Nothing is really a guarantee.

But then again the 3rd gen is what you love. So if the right one pops up who knows.

I personally think you should ask 30k.. Bone stock 5th gens with 75kmiles-100k go anywhere between 15-20k dollars.. your car is SUPER clean and really a complete car. You might have to wait for the right buyer. but what you have is a GEM

Sell it, don’t part it. Agree with above I think you could get close to 30K, it’s already modded and is a very well done car.

I get it about the 3rd gen, I love my IROC. They are cool cars that you don’t see very often anymore. That said. I wouldn’t sell my 5th for the 3rd but definitely that is my preference. If you get back into a 3rd please get a build thread going on the 3rd gen side of this site so we can follow along. What I’ve seen of your last car it was a really nice build and I’d love to see another!

I am in agreement with the others that have weighed in here. I empathize with you and sense frustration with some of the issues your 5th gen has thrown at you. Prob everyone who has done significant mods to their car has had some kind of issue that makes us PO'd and wondering if it is worth it.
I love the 5th gen and newer Camaros, they are newer technology, mod as easy (easier actually) as the older stuff, and generally are more dependable. Of course other than the tuning, electrical complexity, and codes - most of us are clueless on this, and it is best left for the experts who know how to tune them properly.
The best avenue is to have both your 5th gen and buy a 3rd gen, but of course that is prob not reality
You put alot of time, effort, and $$ into your 5th. So maybe get it all sorted out, then keep it, or sell it at the best price possible and buy yourself a nice 3rd gen that you can make again to your liking.
And keep on persevering, as sometimes you just got to take a step back, give it a little time, then move forward in the direction that YOU feel is right.

Well.. I'm in the process of replacing the suspension in my Ram truck and then I am making a 3 hour drive to go look at a thirdgen. For now the Camaro will stay in the fold because having 2 reliable cars is nice... But she is posted for sale locally at $27.5k. The car really hasn't given me any issues besides the strange codes that haven't come back since. I am planning on cleaning the MAF and throttle body just as a Just in case thing. Currently just enjoying driving the Camaro and looking for a nice thirdgen. I may try to keep both, but If I can get a good price for the Camaro, it'll be gone. Ill buy a cheap beater vehicle, and build a thirdgen on the side. We will see what happens I guess.

There’s a ton of wisdom in that last paragraph for sure!

I've had a few offers already... I think that it will definitely sell in the near future. Ive got cash offers at 20k, trade offers for fully built bagger Harleys and even a c6 widebody corvette with a 408 in it. I will definitely post a build thread for the new ride once I get started. Either way I will still be lurking here as you guys are like my car guy family.

It is definitely one big happy dysfunctional family around here. Glad you aren’t going anywhere. I enjoy seeing your quality work, and the mods you choose are definitely in line with my taste.

Dang, hate to see that you're selling but understand it as well. I tried selling mine several years ago and one person got close to what I was wanting out of it. Glad that never went through now though. lol

Best of luck and please keep us up to date here on projects.

I bought a cheap little s10 project for a side project. Would you guys be interested in seeing pics and details on the rebuild process for that?

The Camaro is still posted for sale, but I am starting to think that at my asking price... not alot of people got that kind of cash laying around and I am only interested in selling for cash. Or trade plus cash. So I may just end up keeping it, right now it doesn't owe me anything so I am just driving it and enjoying it. Most people are trying to trade me straight up for other LS projects, which doesn't interest me.

It would certainly be sad to see your beautiful 5th gen go, but I get it when you hit that point when it may be time to move on to something else. Sometimes you just need to test the waters to see how things go.

I would love to see your S10 project. I had a 93 S10 many, many years ago. It was a work/plow truck that I got as my first true winter vehicle (I also had an 02 Camaro at the time). It almost made it 200k before it literally went up in flames...while I was plowing a firehouse parking lot of all places.

Well here it is... it's a 2000 chevrolet s10 xtreme regular cab long bed truck. It's a factory 2.2l with an NV1500 manual transmission. It was sold to me as "having a bad headgasket" which, from my research, sounds like they had factory defects with bad headgaskets and it was super common. I BELIEVE it's an izuzu engine. Very simple fuel injection. I am going to pull the head sometime soon, and see the condition of the motor internally. If it's completely shot inside then I'll have to pull the motor and think about what I want to do with it. My plan is to rebuild it, clean it up a bit and resell it for fairly cheap. The best part about these as they are a dime a dozen and parts are everywhere, especially in junkyard. It came with no joke a 1 inch stack of receipts. This guy really took care of the truck... although it's worrisome that it has had 4+ waterpumps, and already 1 headgasket replacement. Clutch has been replaced before aswell... who knows maybe a simple headgasket will get this thing back on the road.
