Forced Air vs Cam/heads/headers..need oponions
Hey im looking to get somewhere around 550 RWHP and the shop im going through recogmended dual fuel pumps, KB supercharger, ARH headers, and magnaflow exhaust...also a fuel hat. All this for right around 1400 before taxes... this is with a custom tune as well
I wanted a cam because I love the sound but he said I would enjoy the supercharger alot more. My first choice was a tvs 2300, cam, headers...but then he suggested the setup above. Any thoughts on this? Car is an l99 2ss with about 14k miles. |

The Kenny Bell is a different type of supercharger than the TVS. I would do some research and see which type works best for you. I know alot of the mustang guys swear by kenny bell but a TON of respected builders have been using the Magnacharger or TVS on the Camaros, so that type must have something to offer over the KB. As for the power, headers+cam+intake+cat-back+ tune might leave you a little under the 500hp mark. I'd guess it depends on the cam and how aggressive it is.
Or just decide between an amazing KB whine or cam thumping awesomeness.

Don't hold your breath, $1400 barley covers the price of the headers ...

I believe he means $14,000.
If you are set on reaching that 550HP range it looks like the S/C is your choice. I went with a cam a few months back hoping to get close to the 500 mark myself but I fell shorter from my goal than I was hoping. Heads and intake will get me there but they won't provide the torque I am looking for. Now,over the last few days I have been getting quotes for the TVS2300. It all depends on your HP goals and your "fun factor".

You won't get near 550whp with heads and a cam on an L99 car. Forced induction or nitrous is the way to go. Either of the 2 blowers you listed will get you there. Personally I'm going with a heads/cam/nitrous set up on mine since I had forced induction (3 blower combos and a turbo) on my last ride.

Our 560 RWHP Street Brawler Package has everything needed to make 500 RWHP, on the L99, add Water Meth, MSD FPVB, and smaller pulley and your at 545 RWHP, good enough to run 10s with Slicks. Ted.

I wont go into our twin turbo system too much based on what your leaning towards already but, for around 3-4 thousand dollars less you can bolt our on twin turbo system to your car and make over 550 wheel horse power, everything else stock! I can provide more details if you are curious. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105172 These are all very reasonable recommendations. I would make some amendments or suggestions For fueling, if your desire is to just reach the 550 horsepower target, your stock fuel pump assembly will flow the proper amount needed, with the addition of a MSD programmable boost a pump. This would save you a considerable amount of money over the standard duel pump fuel hate set up, which consists of a CTS-V fuel hat and two walbaro fuel pumps and some custom wiring. The duel fuel pump assembly is good option it would just not be 100% necessary for 550 horsepower. The Kenny Bell supercharger system is a great kit, and would certainly get you very close to the 550 horsepower mark depending on the amount of boost (pulley size) you are planning to run. Their kit also will come with the majority of the components necessary for install and it should include their fuel pump voltage booster (B.A.P). Their system like many positive displacement blowers will get you instant throttle response and torque, if that's your goal this supercharger kit is right for you. (Comparable unit would be the TVS2300 Magnacharger, and it would cost slightly less) . Here is a shot of a magnacharger we did recently that made 500 wheel with kooks long tubes (50 more horsepower would be found via a better intake, roto-fabs, and some other small work.) Adding a full exhaust is a great idea, especially on your L99, with its restrictive factory system. ARH makes some of the best headers on the market, and magnaflow as well for exhausts. You seem to have the right choices here. Finally why not just add a cam with the supercharger Its a relatively low cost when completed with the magnacharger and will gain a significant amount of horsepower with out having to raise boost pressures! Good luck, if you have any questions please contact us Regards |

whats going to be the big difference in running a TT setup over a supercharger? If its 3-4k cheaper that would be excellent and leave extra money to throw the cam in.
