Front Radius Arm Inserts

I put in some JDP inserts and noticed that the 1LE comes with inserts from the factory. they are of the same material as the bushing, so they are softer than the aftermarket versions.
factory 1LE inserts are on the left, JDP on the right

z/28 inserts

I got these pics from L99CAMA2011, they are of the factory Z/28 inserts as installed in the bushing. GM does not sell the Z/28 insert without the complete arm, so the aftermarket inserts are comparable and a MUCH cheaper upgrade to the 1LE front end.

All of them come with inserts, but the Prothane inserts are much firmer and fill the voids better. For the cost, they're a huge upgrade especially when you consider pedders sold the same style bushings for over $100!

I have to say, I changed my view on bushings v.s. inserts after going through a full set of BMR bushings, then replacing them with OEM Z/28 control arms that came with the Z/28 suspension package. The OEM bushings come with an excellent metal casing and a center shaft surrounded by a very stiff bushing. It is a much more sturdy design, and will not deteriorate easily. They will also not bind.

Not only the best bang for the buck, I think inserts are only way to go, short of buying Z/28 components. When I took the whole set of BMR bushings out to install Z/28 components, two of those bushings were already ripped/damaged. After all, they don't have a metal sleeve like the OEM design.

As mentioned right above, the Z28 bushing is only sold with its corresponding control arm. Fret not, the control arm is not too expensive.

i'm not positive that these are correct..........23105018 & 23105109, I also found 23105014 & 23105015. you will need a Z/28 VIN because reportably the number is the same as an SS, but they will come with the white bushing inserts
best to verify with your dealer before ordering
if you get confirmation of the numbers, please post back. this would be good info.

Those Z-28 inserts sure look just like the Pedders I got a long time ago! Different color off course, but same size and shape to be sure.

First time I decided to check my "new" steering response I damn near drove off the road- LOL!

The radius arms are sold as a left and right. They are the left and right radius / brake tension arms.

Actually the GM Z28 inserts are the stiffest. They feel like Delrin, so stiff I broke a pen trying to press into it. It's a very hard plastic material. I still don't like the fluid filled radius stock bush Idea though but still good enough.

I wasn't implying that the Prothane inserts are stiffer than the Z/28 inserts, just that they're stiffer/better than the V6/SS/1LE/ZL1.

I still feel a spherical bearing would be the ultimate solution.

Tyler
